Hd500x As A Midi Controller With Sunlite Suite 2

I recently purchased Sunlite Suite 2 and was hoping to use the HD500X as a MIDI foot controller.  I previously was using a DMX Operator 192 and had no issues triggering a bank of scenes with it.  I did find that the HD500X was missing the lowest octave of Midi Notes and I was not able to trigger any chases but that is beside the point.

I have tried using an M-Audio Uno and the iConnect MIO and I can't get anywhere with it.  I am just curious if I am missing a step somewhere.  Do I need some other type of interface to control DMX software?  Is there additional software that I need to install?  I also plan on posting this on the Sunlite forum as I am not sure where the breakdown is occurring.  It's painfully obvious that I am doing something wrong and I am losing my mind trying to figure out what that is.

I am running Windows 7 and my HD500X is on the latest software version.
