siderealx
So I've read a few posts here about using the Boss EV-30, and also using it alongside an additional Tap Tempo (or other) switch on FS5. It seems there's a lot of confusion and differing results/remedies. I think this stems from the fact that some people are using a TRS stereo cable into the EV-30 expression, and some people are using a TRS Y cable into the EV-30 along with something else. These options give quite different results and explain some of the confused comments in the threads. But, I'll be damned if I can figure out how to get an expression pedal with correct travel working correctly alongside a tap switch on FS5. I'd be curious if anyone has this scenario working fully, or has any suggestions. If you want to skip reading the below and know how to set this correctly please let me know! If you want more info it's a bit confusing but let me outline the primary scenarios (obviously there's variations: 1. Boss EV-30 is connected to Exp1/2 input with a TRS stereo cable. The EV-30 polarity is set to normal and min is set to 0 (which is the default for full 0-100% travel). HX Global>Preferences>Exp/FSTip is set to Exp 1 and I can assign freely and it works as expected with full travel, though I cannot now use the ring for another switch. Also HX Global>Preferences>Exp/FSRing can only be set to Exp 2 or FS5 which doesn't really make sense because nothing is technically connected (because the ring portion of the stereo TRS is shared on the EV-30). There's a danger here the ring could send control voltage to an assignment depending on how Exp2/FS5 is set up (I've witnessed this). 2. Boss EV-30 is connected with the Tip to Exp1/2 input with a TRS Y cable with a separate footswitch on the Ring. Leaving the polarity on normal and min set to 0 with the same HX settings as above, the pedal now behaves weirdly; it functions as 0% (Heel) 100% (Middle) and 0 (Toe)... not useful. Changing the EV-30 to max and reversing the tip polarity in globals does return control, but only from 50-100% travel (nothing between 0-50%), and it no longer seems to recall correctly between patches. I don't think this is how to set the EV-30 at all but the only way I could overide the strange behaviour. The FS5 switch does seem to bahave as expected though, but using both doesn't seem to work. So it's as if the HX Stomp needs ring and tip from the EV-30 in order to function correctly. But that means I cannot use FS5 at all, and there's a danger it sends control voltage to other assignments. Equally having both pedals on the Y cable appears to kill correct operation on the Expression pedal. I've tried playing with every variation of setting on the EV-30 and HX Globals I can, but it's just not working correctly. There must be a way to have both surely? Thanks for reading! Any help welcome!
