  1. Some will say pedals don't work well in front of the pod, but that's where I use my EP Booster. I don't use it so much as a boost but more of a tone shaper and it stays on all the time. I'm also using a Plimsoul after the EP then into the HD500X. Currently it's staying on all the time too and I use my volume pots to control the level of drive/distortion. Bottom line is whether it works for you1
  2. I've had the 500X for a month or so now. This is a great unit and I'm getting there with the tones I like. I play direct to FOH. I need some advice from you experienced users. Tap Tempo. Currently I am controlling a Strymon Timeline tempo via midi from the 500X tap button. Works great but noisy. I'm not a fan of the Line 6 stomp switches (coming from a Boss GT100) but here I am. I play in church, quiet stage with IEMs. I've read that you can't use the second expression pedal with a momentary switch. Anyone have ideas for me, perhaps a midi switcher, but with a quiet switch? Volume pedal. I have calibrated the volume pedal but there seems to be a long throw before volume increases. The entire range is not as linear as I would expect. 10% volume comes at 30%, bad example but just looking for thoughts. It may just be it is what it is. Does the volume pedal have to be controlled by one of the FS-1-8? Input sensitivity. I run a couple pedals in front of the 500X (currently an EP Booster and Plimsoul) and the Timeline in the loop. I try to run the first pedals near unity with the 500X. When I do get clipping I back off the pedals in front of the 500X. Could someone explain the input impedance values and whether or not they would have any impact? If you use pedals in front of the 500X I'd love to hear your suggestions. Power Supply. I'm getting a ground loop using the FX loop. I have the Timeline and 500X plugged into a power strip. This is the same configuration I used with the GT100 without issue. Is there a Pedal Power or something that could service both units possibly eliminating this issue? Thanks for your input!
  3. Could a momentary switch be used for expression pedal 2? I would like to use a separate pedal for tap tempo rather than the one by the volume pedal. I also control BPM's on a Timeline with the 500X tap via midi. If the external tap is possible is there a way to still control the Timeline BPM's via midi?
  4. Thanks leesteel, I've been running direct to FOH for about 9 years now. Started with the XTLive, ventured over the Boss side through the GT10 and GT100, now back with Line 6 HD500X. Long range plans include a Variax and maybe to the dream rig side with L6 PA cabs. I play mostly at church and really dig all guitar styles in the worship medium. Occasionally do a little classic rock and blues with as well. I use an amp in that setting, but have to admit I'd rather be running direct. Had my first practice with the HD500X tonite. I thought it went well. We use IEMs and at practice don't normally have an FOH tech. I listened to the house a couple times and wasn't completely disappointed. I still need work on my basic amp tone, hopefully by Sunday I'll be closer. I'll be searching the custom tone site to see what I can find. I have downloaded the vintage amp pack, so I'm working on it. Love the H9, I bet the reverbs are killer. I've not worked with midi that much but great to hear the possibilities. Thanks again for the responses.
  5. Thanks for the help friends! Exactly what I needed! I look forward to giving this a try tonite. At present I'm not wanting to control patches on.the Timeline. Can I turn off the midi controls to preset changes on the Timeline from the HD500 and just use the tempo sync? I'd love to try the H9 next! Looks like a cool unit. What effects are you using with it? I'm curious how you are using your HD500. I'll be running direct to PA. Always looking for hints there too! Thanks again.
  6. I'm new to this unit, loving it so far. I have a Strymon Timeline in the loop. I want to sync the tempo between the two. Changing patches on the Timeline via the 500X is not so important although i know that can be done. My desire is for a single tap to sync the time based effects of the two units, either from the 500X to the Timeline or possibly the other way? Thanks for the input!
