Hi everyone! I wanted to share my experience in case someone else is going through the exact same thing, because the Line 6 download system is a huge headache and I struggled quite a bit to get my POD X3 Live working natively on Windows 11.
First, I tried using Line 6 Monkey, but it throws the 8000200B error (Login Failed). Basically, the old servers are down and the updater software is completely useless now.
I went to download GearBox from the official site, but it doesn't even show up in the list if you select Windows 10 or 11!
When I finally managed to find and download an older version (3.60), Windows 11 blocked the installation entirely, saying it wasn't compatible with 64-bit systems.
After doing some research and going around in circles, I got it to work flawlessly. Here are the exact steps so you don't waste your time:
THE SOLUTION (Step-by-Step)
Step 1: Download the correct version (3.72) Don't use the normal website filters because the software is hidden. You have to use this direct link: [http://line6.com/software/?submit_form=set&name=GearBox](http://line6.com/software/?submit_form=set&name=GearBox) (Or if you use the manual search: do not select the POD X3. Leave it on "- Choose Hardware -", select "GearBox" under software, pick "Windows 7" for the OS, and you must check the "Archived" box). Download version 3.72.
Step 2: Compatibility Mode Right-click the downloaded .exe file > Properties > Compatibility tab. Check the box for "Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows 7" and also check "Run this program as an administrator".
Step 3: THE KEY STEP DURING INSTALLATION When you run the installer and it asks which components you want to install, UNCHECK "Drivers" and "Line 6 Monkey". Leave ONLY the GearBox application checked. If you let it try to install those bundled drivers from 2010, Windows 11 will block the entire installation due to 64-bit architecture conflicts.
Step 4: Download the Drivers separately Go back to the Line 6 download page. Now, search for "POD X3 Live" under hardware, select "Drivers", and pick "Windows 10". Download and install these drivers normally. They are native 64-bit drivers and Windows 11 accepts them without any issues.
Step 5: Connect and play Connect your pedalboard directly to a USB 2.0 port on your PC (the black ones; avoid the blue/red 3.0 ports as the old protocol often fails to sync there). Turn on the POD, open GearBox, and like magic, it recognizes everything instantly.
Now I have full control of the unit right from my screen. With this solved, instead of selling it with the broken button issue, I think I'll just model a replacement for the D-pad in Blender and print it on one of my Enders to get it 100% operational again.
