As a final update to this thread, the next gig after this happened, I reverted to my previous wiring set up and there was no issue.  Then my new AES/EBU 110 ohm cables arrived, still no problem even though it's a longer run of cables,  I think that kind of staticky sound is for sure a cabling issue and an indication that you need to check the length of cable runs and or the type of cables you are using.

It has stereo inputs but it's not a stereo speaker, so no matter how you use it the entire sub is going to be active.  I think the idea of the stereo inputs/outputs is so that you can come out of a stereo board to the left and right inputs of the sub, the sub will sum and pump out the bottom end of both inputs and then pass the stereo inputs intact to the stereo outputs so that they can be fed to the left and right main speakers.  It's more of a connection thing than a mode of operation for the L3s.
  3. litesnsirens's post in Quick Capture Monitor Mix? was marked as the answer
sure just use the quick capture as you normally would and then let it play back while you tweak your monitor mix.  If you don't want front of house going while your doing this turn it down using the master volume knob.  If you mute all it mutes the individual channels from the monitors as well.  I would suggest once your done you bring the FOH back up again as it usually has an impact on how you hear the monitors.  Also I think the quick capture erases when you turn off the M20d so if you want something you can use gig to gig, you'll need to record something to the SD card.

I haven't tried it yet to be honest, but on the touch screen you can swipe all the channels to the left to show another complete blank set of channels.  The hardware encoders are assigned to the currently displayed set of icons (for lack of a better way to describe it).  There are only 12 encoder knobs but 20 inputs (if you include USB and SD card. When you swipe to the left all the encoders will be unassigned, unless some got assigned that you couldn't see.  So you could have all your individual channels on the first "Bank" of icons and then monitors and subgroups once your swipe over to the next "Bank".
