  1. Hal, Well I finely got a chance to actually try it and it was a mess. None of the front controls worked. The wrong tubes....Noise came out of it and that was about it. Shame on Guitar Center for even selling it. Almost like they didn't even try it out whenever they got it in. Oh well, at least I was able to return it and refunded my shipping cost as well.
  2. So I picked up a used HD100 head from Guitar Center (had it shipped from a store not in my area). I have not played through it yet but was giving it a once over. I noticed a strange 4 wire connector coming up near the tubes from the board inside. My other HD100 head does not have this and it just seems quite odd to be dangling there. Can anyone tell me what this might be? See attached pics. I really just wanted it for spare parts but obviously want it to work. I can still take it back if need be....
  3. I know crazy question. There are no techs nearby that work Line6 Spider Valve amps. I love my Mk1 HD100 head, however I am seeing issues with the controls, the channel c button no longer works and just some general oddness. I also have a Mk1 Spider Valve 40w combo. Can I scavenge parts like a control board or other things from the 40w combo to use in the HD100 head?
  4. Thanks for the suggestions but the HD300 does not have the Mid F EQ. It does have the 4 band and Parametric. I messed around with the 4 band a bit but still was not quite able to get what I am looking for.
  5. Hello! Playing around with some old gear. I never tried the Line 6 link so I was messing with it with my DT25 head and HD300. The tone I am looking for is hard to heavy but not super metal, something you can roll the volume back and get an OD clean-like tone. I have settled on the JCM800 model. In general I like the sound but there is this annoying high "fizz or brittleness" I just can't get rid of. Rolling the Presence down helps a bit but it is still there. If I could just get rid of it my tone would be perfect. Any suggestions? The DT25 is like new with very low hours on the stock tubes. I am running it through my line 6 4x12 with Vintage 30's. My HD300 settings are: Live mode Amp set to PreAmp mode Setup output = Stack Amp Line 6 link to amp. No FX1 Any suggestions with some settings to play with greatly appreciated!
  6. These amp are notorious sketchy with the master volume. One symptom I've noticed when the power tubes start to go bad is volume variance. It will go loud then soft and just not stay consistent. You may try new tubes but something to try before that is to check the channel volume level. You can roll back the channel volume so the master is not so drastic. That being said, Line 6 usually recommends keeping the pre-amp (channel) volume as high as possible for the best signal to noise ratio, The thing I do which has worked wonders is to use a rolled off volume pedal in the effects loop. This lets you push power tubes a bit more and gets you out of that super sensitive area of the master volume control from 0 to 1 or 2.
  7. Has anyone tried/had success with this? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09JFP1HZW/ref=sspa_dk_detail_3 "HOSONGIN MIDI to USB Interface MIDI Cable with 1 Input 1 Output Connecting with Keyboard Synthesizer Drum for Editing Recording in Professional Home Music Studio"
  8. Hey There, I recently acquired a DT25 head. I am trying to tweak my sound and would like some suggestions. I plan on using it as a standalone head, not with any other Line 6 products. The #4 setting is too heavy for my but the #3 needs a bit more OD/bite. My target sound is something like a "brown sound" that is heavy but clear with sustain when the guitar volume is maxed but cleans up and when the volume is rolled down. I am thinking some kind of OD or boost my help me get there but I am not very versed in pedals. If anyone has any ideas float them my way. Thanks!
  9. I tweaked the low ones up...got them steady around 36. It actually seems to have helped....I need to do a bit more testing but so far so good. I noticed if I use a volume control (simple POT) inline with the line out line in, bump up the master volume,. then use that inline line out/line in POT to tweak the volume to the power section, that seems to add some stability...the real issue seems to be when the master volume is at really low levels. I guess the amp just likes to be cranked up a bit in the power section.
  10. I checked the biases and they were 31, 33, 32,34 I know that target is 35. That to me seems like it would be close enough?
  11. Sovtek 5881WXT / 6L6WGC Vacuum Tube, Matched Quad Something else odd happened at my gig last night. I was using the line out of the head direct to the board..all the sudden it started blasting..over driving the board. Almost like the XLR line out level shot through the roof. I turn the amp off and on and it did not fix. Sounded awful...unsure if it is all a part of the same issue?

  13. I went back and looked and it appears I put in a new set early in 2020 (February) so a 3 or so months short of 2 years old.. I don't crank the amp but it is my main go to for my cover band gigs and we play about 4 times a month/ 3 hours per show.. Think they may already need replacement?
  14. OK so weird thing happened at my gig with my HD100 head last night. I use a ver. 1 of the FBV board controller. I am using all patches that I have created. No presets. Essentially things would seem fine, I have one channel setup for lead that is a little louder. When I would switch to my lead patch the entire amp would get quiet..even if i went back to my original rhythm patch it was quiet. I would tweak the master volume on the amp and it would get a little louder...then after few minutes it would start blasting at high volume out of the blue. Very frustrating..could not get it to hold a consistent volume level. It almost seemed fbv related because when I changed channels using the amp front buttons it seemed to work OK. I ended up just unplugging the FBV and using one patch the entire night just to get through. At least volume stayed consistent. The tubes are relatively new and were installed and biased by an official service center. I tried messing with it this morning and could reproduce the issue sometimes, but other times it seemed to work fine. I ended readjusting the individual patch volume levels just to see if it would do anything. I have them at about 50% with the lead a little higher. Very frustrating when you can find something to "fix". Any ideas? Note I was trying to play at fairly quiet volume with the master not up very high. I have noticed some cracking in the master volume control at low levels with this amp and at very low volume levels always seemed a little flaky...This amp worked fine last weekend and I made no changes since then and the amp has been comfortable stored.
