Long story short - presets stored by helix is encrypted. And to decrypt them you must have key which is being generated based on you computers hardware (machine hostname included). So when you changing anything that can be a part of that decryption key presets become locked.
So reset to default is the only way to proceed with helix usage, unfortunately.
