  1. Thanks I'm not familiar with your POD source. ?? Is this just another output of your guitar rig? One goes to pa mixer. One goes to the described volume pedal rig? I just need to figure out how best to get my guitar signal, to my monitor as a separate input. I don't know whether to dedicate a monitor feed from the M20. Prefer NOT to do this, as monitor outs are limited to 4. I am considering using the headphone jack coming out of my Apogee Duet audio interface. Is it OK to send a headphone jack signal (guessing a line level signal) into an active/powered monitor???
  2. I'm a guitar player. Making the leap to eliminating stage amp back line, and playing just through the M20, then sending my signal to my monitor do I can hear myself. I finally realized it was overkill, to blast an amp from behind me, just to blast the signal back in from of me in my monitor. I'm killing my ears. So, here is what I want. I have a powered stage monitor with 2 inputs. I want a monitor mix A from m20 of the band only, no me/ guitar, entering my monitor as input 1. Then, the monitor B from m20, I want to run it to a volume pedal, before entering my monitor as input 2. This way, I can set the volumes, but if the stage volumes get too loud during a gig, I can throttle up my volume pedal an make my guitar louder in my monitor, without increasing my FOH guitar volume. So please help. Can the monitor outs on M20be sent to a volume pedal, before arriving at my stage monitor? Thanks
  3. Hi What is the best method for setting the output levels on the L3T and L3S, vs the output level on the M20D I am not sure. Should I set the speakers at 75%, then use the m20D to set final room level?
  4. Hi Is is OK to plug in an Ipod Nano, via the usb port on the M20D? I actually did it, and the Ipod displayed "do not disconnect"... but nothing else happened. It acted as if the ipod was trying to sync with the M20d. I don't want to play audio that way.... I am only wondering if I can charge my Ipod from that USB port. I actually connect the ipod via the aux in jack for playback. Thanks
  5. Yes, you are corrent, my guitar amp (and the front end effects I run to the amp) will be handled before the signal gets to the PA. I'm wondering then if I need to set my guitar signal to a PLAIN INPUT PRESET, and not something that is preset??? Here is the plan setup 2 L3s subs & 2 L3m mains. Likely Line6 Stagesource utilizing L6 cable daisy chain. running out of the mains jacks obviously. 4 stage monitors (either the Stagesource L2m - via L6 daisy chain), or Im looking seriously at the ElectroVoice ELX 12". $280 each. vs $600 each for the L2m So, running via L6 link, or out of the ABCD monitor outs. 1-12 Mic/Line inputs 1-6 for the drummer 7 lead vocal 8 back vocal 9 back vocal 10 back vocal 11 Guitar Combo amp direct out 12 Bass amp direct out line inputs 13 Lead guitar Direct out 14 Keys L 15 Keys R 16 Acoustic Direct SD Card inserted. (for recordings discussed, and for playing play lists during intermission) USB to Ethernet to wifi router in order to connect iPad Headphone plugged into jack. We will probably use the footswitches too, just not sure yet. This is our DESIGN, not all implemented yet. I will say this.... this board is KILLER. Perfect addition to my high tech setup. (I use a midi foot control to switch patches in Mainstage for all guitar effects in the set list). Mainstage is loaded on a Macbook air, that I have mounted to my pedal board, screen looking up at me as would any guitar pedal. Mainstage in turn, sends midi code to an external DMX lighting controller - where I have programmed an entire light show unique for every song in the set. From my foot control, I can also que momentary strobe lights, fog, haze, etc. It's bad asss.
  6. HI Im using the m20d mixer. I need to free up some of the 1-12 XLR input jacks for my drummer. My guitar amp has a DI Out. Can I connect this to one of the four LINE INPUTS 13-16? I have an XLR to 1/4 mono cable. The problem I'm having, is that my stage icon preset that I loaded (Electric Amp Direct), will NOT allow me to reassign the input port to the desired 13-16. The manual references the need for a "1/4 badge" icon in the preset... which the ELEC AMP DIRECT preset does not have. I don't really understand the reasons.,.. I just want to free the 1-12 inputs, as stated. Is there a way to plug DI OUT from electric guitar amp, into 1 of the 4 LINE INPUTs 13-16 on the m20d, and have the stage icon pointed to the correct jack? Thanks Ryan
  7. That is a riot!!!! I fully comprehend your note and will work on perfecting that approach. I've found that many will just listen to their sound, without listening in relation to the other parts. Bass guys don't often get that. I've caught our guy doing just that. I'm the guitar, and have mega volume at my beckon. But, I play all my effects through mainstage, so my volume can NEVER change, unless I have to play up to cover others. Hence the spiral from hell that you mentioned. Hahahaha. This is terrific technology. I'm a guitar guy, not a sound guy.... So the m20 is perfectly what I need. I don't care one bit about traditional faders. I'm basically in heaven. Many many thanks.
  8. SiWatts... Question... (stupid question, but im new) If I record INPUTS ONLY then play it back from the media player as you suggest, will the sound be coming out of the FOH as a new main mix... so I can hear the new mix? To simplify... I want to record the entire band song. Walk into the audience and listen through the mains, and play the song back as I tweak the mix. One other point, as I'm playing it back, I want to MUTE ALL OTHER INPUTS... as I don't want the mics on stage to be picking up sounds from the mains/monitors and distorting the mix. Sorry to be so dumb at the moment. Thanks Ryan
  9. Great info. Really helps. Thanks!!! I also intend to mount the DMX onto the top of the mains. High enough, fewer stands to haul around. Great idea!!! Ryan
  10. Hi Thanks a ton for that detailed information. I hoped it was only my learning curve, and not a problem with the device. This feedback is EXACTLY what i needed to advance with the product. Many many thanks Ryan
  11. Hi I have a similiar question and did not see a direct answer in this thread... Q: Can any other powered speaker or powered monitor (ie QSC DSP Speakers) be used via a L6 Link Cable, and connected to the M20d? Will the M20d treat the OTHERS the same (ie auto assignment, daisy chain, etc)... OR Will a Non-Line6 Stagesource speaker need to be separately wired to the PA (not daisy chained), and separately programed? I too would like to save some money, and maybe buy another brand, but I don't want to lose any significant functionality... Note, that I'm not too concerend about losing the auto-sensing speaker vs monitor, depending on whether a speaker is horizontal or vertical... I am more interested in knowing if the DSP states can be dictated by the M20D, once I tell the M20d what the Other powered speakers will live as. Thanks Ryan
  12. So, further experimentation... Again, I recorded MAIN MIX ONLY to and SD Card. After 10 seconds or so, I stop the recording. The meter shows that a 10 second file was registered. When I push the PLAY button, the time stamp ZEROs out, and nothing plays, whatsoever. I'm getting ZERO sound when I try to play back. And also, the soundfile length is 0:00. However, when I transfer the SD card to the PC and play back, I'm getting a very LOW VOLUME, heavily muted bassy sound file. THere is kb data size in the recorded file... the sound is just utterly muted/bass'd out. ANy ideas? Im probably doing something wrong as this is my first day with the M20D. Thanks ryan
  13. I can only record INPUTS onto the SD card. If I select "RECORD MAIN MIX ONLY".... then press the record button, the meter runs, but when I hit STOP, then PLAY, there is no length of the recorded file. Nothing plays back. GOAL. I want to record the band playing an entire song onto the SD card, then play back that recording as I mix from ipad.
