OK, I understand both of you now and a littler better on both subjects, I've been reading all the pdf's. 1st the pilot guide and now the EDIT guide. Not sure I need to get into the advanced guide just yet. :) When looking at the Signal Flow View, I assume that all FX to the left of the AMP is in front of the amp and everything to the right would be behind the amp, such as in the FX loop? Or do I have to actually put in the the FX Loop block? Sorry if I'm getting a head of myself and you guys are getting annoyed. Also, when I get there. How do I download the Metal Pack? I have an activation code.

I'm not completely following. So in EDIT it makes no difference if I use 300/600 500/700, Tyler or acoustic or whatever just as long as use the patch with the my same guitar? Which mine are essentially.

When creating a patch, what do i choose for the Variax input? I don't understand this part of the MIX. I use a PRS CU24 and CE24 so do I choose something else for that setting?

Sweet OK. Well, wish me luck. I'm SURE I'll be back with more questions. Tonight I just want to focus on getting the update done. If that goes well, then I'll try running EDIT and start getting familiar with it. Maybe mess around with a making a good Slash Sweet Child tone. Are the recipes vids from Line 6 a good starting point or should I avoid those? Thanks for the pointers also guys! I don't know what firmware it has or for sure what software I need to run this on my computer. So far I've downloaded 500x Edit & line 6 Monkey. I also dl'ed POD Farm 2 but not sure I even NEED this and pay to have it? I'm hopefully going to fire up the 500x tonight and update the firmware to v2.62 if needed. Then, with luck DL some customtones as well as build 1 using the POD Edit. I'll hang in there but I may beat my head off a few walls to get there :) There are a few vids with guys using the 5150iii and mini mesas that have tones with effects only that sound pretty good and I think i could play live with that setup, so I KNOW it's achievable. Just one hell of a learning curve to get there. Oh and thanks Cruisin!

I notice that the mesa and Bog were on there last night. I got to say out of the box, just like everyone says...I was not impressed with any of the tones through my sennheiser 558's. I was ready to box it back up and put it on ebay. But it is my 1st night with it and only an hour at that. My primary reason to get it in the 1st place was to use it for effects only on my live rig. Which I haven't decided on just yet. I think I'm down to the Mini Mesa or 5150 iii 50w. Probably look at a few other mini's. Anyway, I hope that I'll be able to get some usable tones for practice at least out of this while pumping in the song from my practice stereo. What i came across last night was either way to harsh or just not a usable FX. I'll also start trying some of the cutometones on here and see if how that works.

I should finally getting the 500x today from the delivery guy. It never occurred to me that this thing would not have the Metal pack and vintage pack already on it. So I really have to spend another 100 bucks to get these?

Ya I realized that after posting. I'll just have to experiment and first really learn to use the 500x 1st.

Cool. I appreciate the input. As with all this stuff, I know it takes time to really figure out what will work best or work at all for each person. I do like the editing software of the 500's. Seems like it wont be too difficult to use. I'm sure it will be more than fine for my personal practice.

I have thought about going FRFR as well. Only thing with that is that I would have to invest in a power amp to "test" it out. Actually, no I wouldn't I don't think. I'm sure I could barrow one of my buddies. Both have studios so I'm sure I could try one out with the 500x and a mesa cab. Since I've always been a boogie player (rock,Metal) I'm partial to that tone. And with one of the guys already having a mini rec, I guess I could use his to test that out as well on a 2x12 and 4x12 Recto cab. Only I wouldn't have gobs a time to perfect it. Maybe a Saturday night and a 12 pack. I'm aware that the headphones sound will not be a even close to what I would hear through the mesa. Being that you can get 1 for $400 or less and can sell one for the same, it would't be a big money risk to try the 500x. I know it will great for my headphone practice thats about all I know for sure.

Hey guys, Trying to figure out if 500x is the right thing to go with. My 1st priority is to use this sucker for my own practice only through Headphones. Maybe a small combo. Next, I do plan to get back into playing live. In the past my rigs have been boogies and many pedals. This time around I was thinking that I could use a Mini Rec, 2x12 recto cab and use the 500x for effects only. Not looking to color the tone of the rec with the 500x. That being said. CAN YOU use the 500x to throw a something like TS9 in front of the mini rec and get good results? Should I consider a different 25w head? I've read about some issues with the 500/500x and the rectos, resulting in some unpleasant hum. I always use a hush pro in my other set ups btw, but what I've read described, the hush pro would not be helpful. Any input would be great. Thanks
