  1. Thanks for the reply, Silverhead! That makes sense and I definitely want flexibility so using the 4CM is most appropriate, I also saw a video last night about FX loop blocks on the Helix so I will trial that too, but either way you've answered my question so feel more confident about purchasing the unit now. Many thanks
  2. Hi, I'm on the brink of buying one of these, but had a question regarding using it with my existing pedals. My rig is a Friedman Runt 20 (with effects loop) into a Two Notes Captor X. In front of the amp I have various drive/gain pedals. I want to use my existing drive pedals as normal, so would I be correct in assuming I would use the '4 Cable Method' but have my guitar plugging into my existing pedals and then a cable from the last pedal going into the Helix Effects? Watched countless videos and read the manual on this, they all talk about the 4CM but don't mention using the HX Effects unit in conjunction with other pedals. Many thanks Simon
  3. Excellent, thanks for all the replies guys. I will be ordering the Helix tomorrow together with a pair of mid range XLR cables (£18 each). No doubt I'll be back on here in a weeks time asking basic questions about the Helix!!
  4. Many thanks for the reply, appreciate it! Yes I absolutely intend to spend some money on getting the right cables, just wanted to check the setup before ordering the cables. So from what you're saying I am best off getting a pair of XLR jack cables to go from the XLR input on the Helix to the XLR input on my monitors? Thanks
  5. Apologies in advance is this is a very basic question, but I'm looking to purchase the Helix in the next few days (the UK finally has some stock!!) and want to ensure I have the right cables to hand. I am looking to connect the Helix to a set of Personus E5 monitors, currently I connect these monitors through a 'balanced' 1/4" input to a Focusrite Scarlett audio interface. My intention was to connect my monitors using the same 1/4" cables from the balanced input to the Helix, however from looking at the Helix manual it seems I would need to connect from the XLR inputs instead? If I tried to connect by using the 1/4" input on the Helix it states it must be 'unbalanced' so presumably it wouldn't work. Basically I'm very confused and don't want to spend over £1k on the unit and then find I can't connect it properly without ordering new cables etc. Any help would be much appreciated! Cheers
  6. Wow, thanks for all the replies! It really is a case of trying it out for myself, unfortunately none of my local guitar shops have it in stock so it would be an online purchase. I'm literally 50/50 with this as I'm not very good with the technical aspects on this sort of stuff, I mean I've never even heard of IR's yet I see it quoted often in relation to the Helix. I'm going to check the return policy on my favourite online retailer and it might be a case of buying it and giving it a proper run through before deciding if it's something I can get on with. Cheers
  7. So I'm very interested in buying the Helix after reading countless reviews and watching numerous YouTube videos, both biased and unbiased! Despire seeing some great videos I've read numerous comments from people who've purchased the Helix stating how underwhelmed they are with the tones, particularly the gain tones. At over £1k this isn't a casual purchase for me and I'm worried ill get it home and realise the tones are no better than I'm currently getting on Amplitube. I would be using the Helix at home and playing through my Presonus monitors, my question really is whether I'm unduly worrying and that in reality I will be fully justified in buying the unit? Should also mention I'm a bit of a technophobe, although the Helix does look very intuitive, I'm worried that I haven't got the knowledge or technical nous to figure out any issues if I can't get the Hellix working the way I intend or expect. Sorry for the vague question, appreciate there's no straight answer but just interested to hear from existing Helix users, particularly those who might be using it as a 'bedroom' player like I will be.
