Problem solved although I'm not crazy about having old Java on my PC. I found the Java archives and figured out what appears to be the last version to support 32-bit Java (indicated by windows-i586 in the name, I guess named after Intel Pentiums): https://www.oracle.com/java/technologies/javase/javase8u211-later-archive-downloads.html This requires that you create an Oracle account. You have to be sure you are signed in when you are on the link above or the download won't work so check the "Accounts" icon in the top right if you have trouble.. I downloaded and ran the file jre-8u311-windows-i586.exe and this time when I ran Line 6 edit, it ran as expected and connected to my Pod 2. and I am back in business! I hope this helps someone!

It's not the computer that is 32 bit but rather that the line6 editor is trying to download it. The computer is a new i9 Windows 11 x64. If you look where the app is installed, it's installed in C:\Program Files (x86)\Line6\ which is used for 32-bit architecture. When installing it flashes a warning saying it needs the runtime, attempts to download it with a "Connecting" message then fails with another error message with no specifics given. When you run the app, it then gives you the message, "This application requires a 32-bit Java Runtime environment 1.6.0". It sends you to the JRE download but only 64-bit is available, I believe as I cannot find any 32-bit versions on the Java site. Only options appear to be on online file archives and they make me nervous, even though I have BitDefender. Same error for Windows 10. So, if for any reason you lose your Line 6 edit installation (as I did) you can't reinstall.

I though this was a Windows 11 problem but after trying on my old Windows 10 PC I get the same error. Sorry for the re-post, I thought it was a Windows 11 issue. Due to a hard disk crash I have to re-install Line6 Edit for my good old Pod 2.0. But the installer depends on being able to download and create jre_setup.exe for Java Runtime v1.6 32-bit and that download fails. Being fully aware of the security issues with outdated Java installs, what are my options?

UPDATE: this is not a Win 11 problem, I just tried a Windows 10 install which worked previously. The jre_setup file is created with 0 bytes, then deleted when Line6 edit fails to retrieve it.

When you open Line 6 Edit, it sends you to a download page presumably for your OS (IIRC your exact OS platform and version is sent to the web server in the http header). So I downloaded and installed that. It appears to be Win 11 compatible as I have another Java based app that runs on my new laptop, even though it's not exactly a spring chicken. Checking for the version, I got this info: java version "1.8.0_311" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0_311-b11) Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 25.311-b11, mixed mode) Thanks for the link above, I followed the instructions and sadly not only did Line 6 still complain, the app that used to run stopped working. So I reversed everything, and things were as they were before.

Hi, New laptop with Win 11 installed. Line 6 Edit install fails to download jre_setup.exe for Java Runtime v1.6 32-bit. Running Line 6 Edit even with the latest JRE 1.8 raises the error that JRE 1.6 32-bit is required. This is to edit my Pod 2.0 which still has some great legacy tones but I need Edit to change values like noise gate threshold. Does anyone have a solution for this, or an alternate method for controlling Pod 2.0?

Hi all, I am new to HX, I have an HX Effects on bass which I've been exploring for just over a month. I need a parallel B signal that comes in progressively so that when I play lightly I have a relatively clean signal on A and as I play more loudly, once over a threshold B kicks in progressively so that as the playing gets heavier, so do the effects on B (but still mixed with A). I have tried the Dynamic Split but it seems that it will SWITCH to B, not play in parallel. (Is that right?) I tried a 50/50 A/B split with a noise gate on B, and I have the ability to get the B to come in in parallel over a threshold. But once over the threshold the signal goes up and down according to attack/decay time, not playing intensity. Therefore, no dynamic control. It doesn't really sound like a gate's job, maybe an expander or compander. I think I've tried all the gates but maybe I missed something so please forgive the noobness. Has anyone tried anything like this on an HX? Thanks for any advice.

If an FX send/return is available on the "club" amp, then the other challenge will be the fact that the EQ won't work on the amp (to compensate for different power amps/speakers frequency response profiles). Sounds like an EQ pedal would have to be inserted between the Pod and the FX return. I looked up the Tech 21, nice solution. I see it DOES have 4-band EQ.

We were using these three amps as a test case, we are trying to develop a technique that allows us to set up as quickly as possible with the least amount of messing around with matching the amp to the variety of tones we need. My city (Montreal) doesn't have many live rock venues and we are just starting out so we expect to start out playing open mic, jam nights, battle of the bands and shared-venues hosted by other bands with their gear. We don't expect to get a lot of time to find exactly the right sound on the amp. So, like I said, the three amps was actually a "proof-of-concept" of the technique, not a real-world scenario. In fact, we will have no idea what amps we will be plugging into. According to other XT commentators out there, the solution is to go for the driest tone possible on whatever amp we are using. Going straight into the FX loop is a great idea, if that option is available on all the amps we encounter. I am not used to this tactic, but I guess this is effectively like plugging directly into the power amp.

Our band is in a position where we expect to have to "plug and play" into existing amplifiers supplied by the club. Because of the bands we are covering (Tool, Soundgarden, STP, SOAD, etc) we need a good deal of flexibility in guitar tones. As we use rent-by-the-hour jam spaces, we have already found that we are wasting a lot of time as our guitarist tried to reproduce tones that he was getting in the previous jam space with a different amp and various analog pedals. So, I suggested that we pull out his Pod XT and try sculpting sounds using Amp simulators, and then go for the clean channel, get the driest sound with the flattest EQ possible - i.e. start with all EQ at 5 or 0 (depending on the EQing model of the amp) and dial the gain/drive to just the edge of "warmth" then pull it back a notch. We tried this with three amp models: Marshall JCM 2000 60W combo Marshall MG100 DFX Fender DeVille We started with the ​JCM 2000 and got very satisfactory results. But, using the same Pod XT patch we had sculpted for that amp, when we used the MG100 and the DeVille, we had to set: Bass=2/10 Mid=2/10 Hi=8/10 Presence=8/10 By contrast, were all at 5/10 on the JCM 2000 (I realize that "presence" means different things on different amps). I expected some minor tweaking for the obvious reasons of course, but nothing this drastic. Does anyone know the Marshall JCM 2000 60W combo, and is it the odd man out - i.e. is it known for having a particularly hi-end-focused clean channel? Since the point is to be able to get into a new room, and set up our tone as quickly as possible (especially in situations where we are sharing equipment with other bands) I would really appreciate any advice on how to approach this problem.
