  1. One way to do this is with Ableton which also means you need a laptop on stage. In Ableton you can create empty MIDI clips (no notes) and draw CC envelopes. This allows you to draw smooth curves which then control the parameter on your Helix device. I use the volume block to emulate the sidechain effect, but you can also use a compressor or even one of the filters to achieve different results. You can then either just let the clip loop forever (in clip view) which of course only works when you are playing to a click/backing track. But clip view also enables you to toggle clips with no quantisation. There are again different ways to trigger the clip which sends out the envelope. One way is to use this plugin: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mpS_iN8TjJo If you use this you can trigger the clip with the incoming note from your drummers kick drum trigger. I know this is a lot more complicated but without an envelope you won't get there.
  2. I've got the POD500x, so I'm not in a hurry. I love to edit my presets on my pc (probably because I grew up with one) while having Ableton opened so that I can immediately hear how it sounds in the mix. That's the setup I'm used to (having the POD on the floor aswell so I can use my feet to switch faster). I imagine the update will come soon. Until then I've got an excuse for not buying something I can't really afford right now :p
  3. OK that sounds like a great solution. Thanks for your reply! Now I'll just wait for the desktop edit software update and then get myself an HX.
  4. Hi guys, I'm thinking about getting myself the HX Effects (for my bass guitar) but I've got a question: Can you split the output signal to different jacks as you can do with the Helix? I'd like to have my clean signal come out of one output and another signal path with effects out of the other, so that I can always blend those on the PA for example. Also, how many signal paths can you have in the HX? As far as I know you can have up to 4 in the Helix. My dream would be to have my setup like this: Can I do this with the HX effects? Thanks in advance! Greetings, Alex
  5. Hi guys, just wanted to share my experiments with Ableton and the Pod (HD500x). Initially I tried to just use the sync function of Ableton, which does work with the pod and does change the tap tempo. But the pod does readjust constantly and this just doesn't work out well. Maybe it's my crappy usb to midi cable... Here's what works well for me: Pod: Midi channel to global (though you could also just limit it to a channel). Ableton: Activate "Track", disable "Sync" of your midi interface. Create a midi clip, which only sends midi information (cc64). You can find this under the envelope settings of a midi clip. I just have it on 127 velocity for one short moment at the start of my midi clip. Now comes what really made a huge improvement for me: Adjust the length of the clip to send the midi information half as fast as your real tempo is, e.g. for drum n bass around 174bpm you would create a clip that's have a bar long and loop it, so the tempo which arrives at the pod is around 87. It won't be exactly that - slightly higher (atleast in my case) - but it doesn't adjust anymore. Now you only have to set your effects to be twice as fast (e.g. 8th -> 16). Just pm me if you have any questions, Greetings, alex
