  1. After using hx effects and hx stomp together for a while, I’m just using the stomp these days. I’ve found the hx stomp to be very useful for pedal steel. As far as the amp & cabs go, I’ve been using the delux and twin with 2x12 cab. When I’m playing live, I always use a real amp, milkman half and half, using the stomp for effects. The amp and cab sims are still an incredibly powerful and useful tool. I sometimes have gigs where an amp isn’t practical, i can show up to a rehearsal without an amp, and for home recording, the stomp has been my best friend. When I’m setting up a preset, I set up a block for my volume pedal, usually the 4th. That gives me 3 blocks before and 2 after. Perfect for a compressor (If needed), distortion, modulation, the I place delay and reverb after the vp. If I’m using amp & cab sims, I put them in the last two blocks and incorporate external pedals if I need other effects.
  2. I want to incorporate the HX unit into my rig. Question: With the volume pedal being so central to the pedal steel, I would need the ability to have some effects before the VP and some after. I know hx has multiple input/outputs. My VP has multiple outs. That said, would it be possible to run pedal steel—HX—volume pedal—HX—amp? Could I then assign the individual effects to the specific outs? For exapmle, could I assign distortion, modulation, filters before the VP and then have the reverbs and delays assigned after the VP?
