  1. That’s a good idea. I will try re-building a patch from the ground up on a newly rebuilt machine to see what happens. I’d also describe it as white noise Hiss, not 60cycle hum.
  2. Thanks all, to clarify - the loop noise continued even on a factory preset, after I reloaded the backup. it got me thinking maybe it was a global setting issue but I can imagine any global setting that would impact noise when I’m simply patching the send to the return. I’ve tried instrument and line levels. again, for clarity, for the same preset adding a loop had no change to the noise level after factor reset, but after re-loading, the exact same loop in the same place on the same factory preset made the noise come back. in general, is it fair to say that a patched FXLoop with a good cable should not introduce any noticeable / bad noise?
  3. Hi all, I’m experiencing two issues with my Helix Rack: 1) Randomly, on any patch/cable/guitar/day/setting if I strum the volume quickly cuts to zero and then quickly “releases” back to normal volume. It almost sounds like clipping but there is no distortion, just volume drop and then return. Soft strumming helps. No issues with the AUX so I’ve been using it. Very low output strat pickups on both guitars. Lately i switched back to the front input and was pleased that the issue has resolved unexplainably. 2) unrelated, I use the FX loops for favorite pedals. In fact, I place an RJM Rack Gizmo in the loops for about 12 pedals via midi. The loops have always been dead quiet. Almost indistinguishable on/off no matter the patch. randomly I started getting extreme hiss in any loop. So I removed the RJM after extensive testing and did a simple patch from send to return with many different patch cables. All very noisy. All 4 loops on clean / factory patches. did factory reset and 3.5 upgrade and on my first try before I reloaded, the noise was fixed but the input issue returned. I tried all the different loops and low or no noise on multiple patches. The loops were fixed. I reconnected the RJM and still no loop noise. Great, I thought. I reloaded my presets and the noise returned and the input issue persists. any ideas here??? I’m thinking it’s time to send it in….
  4. Hello, I am wondering if this is possible: Let’s say I have 20 different songs that each require snapshots within for different song parts. I’ve been building a template preset with every conceivable pedal needed and then copying that 20 times, and then editing as needed for the different songs and their parts within (snapshots). For years, my issue has been that I’d I decide to change an amp setting, or swap out an IR, I have to do that on all 20 presets. It seems like there needs to be a “rig” mode that allows universal editing of the rig (amp settings, pedals, etc.) that would allow for this. I know that I can copy/paste and I know there are global/favorites but that’s not really what I’m looking for. At minimum I would think the amp settings could be tied to a universal - or you could have pedal settings that tie back to a universal controller (meaning within the preset and pedal you say - tie to pedal setting A and then you can edit “A” and it changes for all presets. thoughts / suggestions?
  5. Hey all, I’ve been experimenting with effects and various setups for over a decade. I’m a hobby player who loves to build things with some favorite tones, and more recently, has a family who sleeps in the same house as my rig. Ive had half stacks, combos, massive pedalboards, small racks, and most recently Helix Floor only. My influences are Gilmour (major), blues, some Mayer (more the tone than the music), rock, etc. In my current situation, I love the Helix because it gives me amp flexibility, a load of great effects, endless routing, delays, verbs, cabs, etc. I simply don’t have the space or budget for multiple Amps, so digital modeling really makes sense for me. Additionally, headphones and studio monitors critical for space and family! Over the years I’ve always had to compromise for various reasons. So when I had my gilmour setup, it was very dedicated to those tones. When I had the Helix only, it was a Swiss Army knife for other music but I missed certain pedals and Gilmour and other tones. Plus, I just like trying new pedals and rig building as a hobby. Luckily, I’m now in a position where I don’t have to compromise as much monetarily. My only constraint is keeping everything inside a 16U rack, and can’t go crazy on the $. Ive since sold the Helix Floor and picking up my Helix rack today. Will also order a Control when I can find one used (anyone?) It will be the heartbeat of the new rack rig, providing the majority of the EQ, compression, delay, reverb, some modulation, dirt where the models are great, routing, MIdI controlling, etc, all of which it does awesome for me! Where I’m wanting specific pedals to take over for tones and tunes I love, I’m going to use an RJM Effect Gizmo combined with rack drawers and pedals to handle the tail of other tones I desire. I’m hopeful they all play nice together. I do have four custom made buffers I plan to insert before the FX return in the Helix. Here is my thought / question : how can I best incorporate the two rigs for the best of both worlds? Routing options are critical, but my thought is to put the first 6 loops of the RJM in one FX loop, and the 2nd 6 loops in the another. This would leave the first and last FX loops open. From a MIDI standpoint, I think I’ll have to call certain CCs for every patch where I use the External FX. Is that right? Or, should I program using PCs? I’m less familiar with how this would work. Ideally, I’d want the Helix Control to represent the status of the RJM loops where I want instant access, which would be a combination of internal Helix FX and external loops via MIdI. Is this possible? Any help or guidance would be great! SA
  6. Thanks for the replies! Abxious to get the Helix tomorrow and give it a try. Will report back for sure. The receiver does have a “straight” option why bypasses all internal processing, so that’s good. One thing I don’t quite understand - in the signal chain, you can put delays (for example) between the amp and the cab (or IR). What does this really do? Obviously it gets the preamp gain stage before the delay which is preferable, but is it fair to think about the power amp section as being in the cab/IR? Thus placement here is basically in the FX loop? what about between the IR and a Mic? im sure I’ll learn all this when I start fiddling around
  7. Hello! Long time analog guy, used to have huge pedalboards, switchers, etc. Sold everything and going Helix. I play at home exclusively and love great tone and play guitar in my spare time. Helix is in the mail! When I purchased our home, my office had 5 very very high quality home cinema speakers already installed. I’m using a standard Yamaha surround receiver to power them. Specs here: https://m.bowers-wilkins.com.tradeitlive.com/speakers/custom-installation/In-Wall-In-Ceiling/In-Wall/CWM-Cinema-7.html?c=set Currently can’t afford to add a FRFR (I know some are cheap) and want to at least try using the speakers I have for space, convenience, and cost. Things I’m thinking about: - set the Yahama to flat bass / trebble - determine if the phono input is any different from other inputs on the receiver - try headphone out vs. 1/4 out on Helix - May need high and low pass filters and master EQ - in theory, recorded guitar sounds exceptional through these when listening to music, so does it make sense to use a mic model to emulate a “recorded guitar” vs a “live amp”? Understand it may be different than “amp in a room”? Can someone smarter than myself review the frequency response and specs of those speakers to determine what EQ adjustments may need to be made? Thanks in advance, Stephen
