I just got a 2011 JTV 69 used, it has at least a couple of previous owners. Either QC or one of these owners screwed up because position 2 and 4 using the magnetic pickups are out of phase, and there's no hum cancellation. Which means, as far as I understand, that the middle pickup is at fault. (And of course the modeled 2 and 4 positions are unaffected).
I've used a compass to confirm that the middle pickup is in fact a reverse polarity pickup, so I'm guessing I just have to switch hot and ground? Any variax-specific gotchas? I'm pretty inexperienced with soldering but if it's like a normal strat it should be a simple job.
