I tried getting a new adapter but I'm having the same problem. anything else I could try?

Hey, I recently bought a UX2 and I'm having a problem with it. When plugging in the headphones (with an adapter) I can't hear anything unless they're about 3/4 of the way in, and even then, the sound is awful. Sorry for asking something other people have already asked, I found other threads asking the same question, but never an answer. Also, does anyone have any advice on what setting to use on PODfarm if I'm mostly doing voiceover? Thanks in advance.
