TL:DR: Is there such a thing as 6 cable method with a preamp + stereo FX loop?
Hey Gang,
I've been trying to figure out a way to run my new HXStomp on a new "ampless" pedalboard. (church, ya know). I already have an H9 and I'm trying to figure out how to incorporate a Kingsley preamp (Maiden D) into the front end, but stil have a pre/stomp box capability in the HX. Given the 7 month lead time on the Kingsley, I, umm, have some time to think about it.
Ideally, I'd like to run my guitar to my then into the HXStomp with the Kingsley as an outboard pre/post aI'm trying to figure out if I can run a part of the HXStomp in. a "split brain" pre/post mode. Basically Guitar -> some preHx pedal -> HX (pre) -> KingsleyMaiden at guitar level -> HX Post at line level -> Send to H9 in stereo also at line level -> Return the HX at line level in stereo -> headphones or direct out.
My goal is to get the HXStomp dirt boxes into the Kingsley and then preserve the stereo H9 + Hx outputs. My initial thinking was to use the stereo effects loop for the H9 and then try to use the Left and Right input/output channels as separate block in the Hx, one for pre, one for post. But the more I think about this, I think I'm short an output as I couldn't quite get the stereo output back out at the end since even if this worked, I'd only have one output from the HX for direct. If I run the H9 mono, then I think I can possibly do this using separate left and right effects sends as effectively dual mono loops with one running line level, one running at guitar level.
The alternative is to run the H9 in mono as pre/post and just buy another dirt pedal for the front of the Maiden. The setup is more linear then with Guitar -> dirt pedals -> Maiden (line level) -> left input HX at line level -> H9 send/return stereo (line) -> stereo outs. This is a variant 4CM with a preamp but with the trick that the HX and H9 are all running at line level.
