So I was able to install a version of the original workbench that is allowing me to more easily program the guitar, but it will not link to the HD500X, so no patches... still a huge improvement. I had to install the old workbench on an old Vista computer - it won't work with Windows 10. Thanks!

Okay, I just bought an acoustic Variax 700 and it is not pairing well with an HD500x and the newest workbench. My question is, does the original variax workbench software allow for patches to be made that include alternate tunings? I want to avoid having to manage tunings on the guitar itself. PS: I know the original workbench requires an HD500 and won't work on the HD500x.

So, why doesn't the HD500x allow me to create patches with alternate tunings for my Variax 700 acoustic the way it does my JTV59 electric? Am I doing somethign wrong? Do I need an update or something? ... And thanks!

Okay - this is not working. I connected my JTV via a DVI cable. Then I went to a patch I created (wish I could embed a screen shot) - anyway I have it programmed on the Mixer tab to default to the Variax guitar and to force a tuning (in this case open G). The problem is, it doesn't force anything - the guitar stays powered down and defaults to the magnetic pick-ups. The whole point of this HD500X for me was to not have to keep switching settings on the guitar... What am I doing wrong? Or is my equipment faulty?

Thanks so much for your help. I tried the suggestion you made regarding tunings and it works better, but it isn't flawless. Sometimes it just doesn't want to use the tuning in the guitar - particularly on my 5 string open G setting. It's a little frustrating as the biggest reason I bought the HD500X was to stop messing with the controls on the guitar and I still am going to have to... Or switch to a 6 string open G that I can program in the patch.

This prompts me to ask if it matters where the Guitar selector knob is set?

I didn't know this and strongly suspect that is/was my issue. As soon as wok stops interfering with my guitar time I will give that a try.

I have been using a JVT59 for a while and have enjoyed the ability to create alternate tunings within workbench. One such tuning I am using is a standard open G tuning, but with the low E (in this case low D) string silenced for the classic Keith Richards open G sound. I just bought an HD500X and created a patch which is supposed to use and remember the tuning from the guitar - but it sounds terrible - it is simply not in any tuning as it puts string number 5 way off (sharp) from where it should be (which is a G). FYI: This tuning works great with the guitar on battery power plugged directly into an amp. Anyone else had this issue? I know I can force a tuning in the Mixer Block within Edit, but it doesn't have the functionality there to silence the low string. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Does it matter if the TRS is balanced or unbalanced? Mine is balanced...

Thanks... Actually was using a TRS cord and it did power the guitar. I've ordered a proper Line 6 power supply and we'll see if that was the issue.

I picked up a cheap AC 9V 2000mA adapter and here is what happens: It does power the JTV 59 But, the power light never comes on The XLR & 1/4" lights work But, no matter which of those is lit the signal is always coming out the 1/4" So, bad pedal? Or, bad power supply that isn't allowing the pedal to reach its potential?

So I took it to CG on my lunch break this afternoon and of course it worked flawlessly! They suggested re-syncing and updating the firmware. I agreed, but told them if it happens again I will insist on a new guitar. I can't have it in need of a firmware update half way through a set-list. We'll see how it goes from here - thanks to all for the great responses!

Thanks to all who replied. I will get another and go form there. In the meantime, it is back to lugging a bunch of gear! On the bright side, lugging a bunch of gear means I have a bunch of gear, and that's just cool.

As the rhythm guy in my band I was excited to finally buy a JTV - my band mates kept throwing out songs to add that were played on about a dozen guitar and tuning combos... I thought I was finally going to be down to one guitar. I've had it less than a week and think I got a lemon. First issue - the battery wasn't lasting more than about 4 hours. And now it has gone completely haywire. I was running through the set list and when I changed the tuning knob the volume started cutting in and out, and it won't tune to any recognizable tuning. The battery was at 2 lights, I tried powering down, unplugging everything (incl. battery) and reconnecting, no change. This thing is a dud and there is no way I am trusting it live in front of an audience. Thankfully I purchased the extended warranty from Guitar Center. It's going back tomorrow! Anyone else have anything like this happen?

I called Guitar Center and they are willing to replace the battery if the problem persists. I have band practice on Sunday so I'll give it one more good test run then. I have to ask, why aren't you a fan of the TRS option? I really like my pedal board set up and amp, so I am not wanting to spend a lot on a POD just for the purpose of powering the guitar.

Yes, charging appropriately and getting four lights, down to two lights in about 2 hours and pretty much dead in 4, maybe 5 hours.

I have a 4 hour practice every Sunday and it barely makes it through... I wonder if I have a faulty battery?

I'll apologize up front if this has already been addressed... Didn't see anything though. I just got a JVT 59 and the manual states the battery will last about 12 hours. I am getting about 4 or 5 hours out of it. I bought the guitar new, so it shouldn't be a case of end of life or anything like that. Any thoughts? I ordered a Line 6 a/b that will also power the guitar, but may not always want to lug my pedal board - Besides, I paid for a battery that should work! I would love some feedback on this. Thanks!
