Well, the stadium has brought me back from Quad Cortex. I am loving the stadium with its new focus view and workflow! Great update Line 6 team!!!
Had a quick wishlist of items for future updates when you guys catch your breath from this release:
Agoura Amp Wishlist
PRS MT100 or MT15 (either one would be a great high gain amp addition)
JP2C Amp
Ability to Record Quickly on the Device
With the new showcase and paperclip function coming soon it just makes sense to allow us to record something very quickly on the device itself without having to have it plugged into a computer and open up a daw. I know Eric has mentioned he doesn't want this to become a daw inside of helix. I get that, but, on the other hand - My argument would be "why not a small recorder"?
I found myself in this position just yesterday. I had a small idea which I wanted to capture quickly before I forgot it. I had to locate my usb cord, plug it in, turn on my computer, put in my password, then finally launch the daw, oh - then it prompted me for an update, then I had to create a new session, add a new track, record arm enable the track and finally........hit the record button. Just to capture a thirty second idea.
It would have been "much" easier to just hit a button on my Helix that brought up a small 4-8 track recorder and then hit the record button to capture it real quick and then I could always transfer it over to my mac later into a daw.
Or, imagine you are setting things up for band practice and you have an idea before everyone else is ready. It would be great to be able to quickly hit a record button to capture that idea and perhaps add another track with the lead guitar underneath it or something. It just makes sense and I hope they would build something like this in the near future.
Don't need a full blown daw inside of Helix. But, a smaller version of one to record ideas would be an ideal workflow improvement.
Focus View Preferred Option
So, I "love" the new focus view. I want to stay in it but don't have a real good way of doing so. If I pull up an amp, tap on the focus view, I have no way of navigating to the next device on the chain. I have to tap the home button, then tap on next device in the chain, then tap on its focus view setting. Same thing if I am adding a new amp or adding an effect to a chain. I have to tap to add in the device, then tap the focus view to bring it up, etc.
I had an idea where there would be (in the settings) a new UI area. In that area, it would have a toggle that says "Prefer Focus View". If checked, this would automatically bring up the focus view on the amp when switching to a new preset. It would also bring up focus view automatically when adding a new amp or device to the signal chain. Pressing home would just take you to the main amp in focus view mode (pressing home a "second" time would then take the user to the timeline).
You would add Next and Prev buttons to the focus view area which would allow the user to go to the next or previous device on the chain (see screenshot attached).
Nexus Expansion Device Idea
A great expansion device idea would be to have the "D11" that could be an add-on that would be add in 4 headphones amplifier and include the adat like the D10 does. What this would do is add 4 more headphone mixes for band members that could then control their mixes within the Helix for band practices.
Bonus points if the D11 "Pro" was sold as a small pack which added 4 small boxes that each band member could have volume controls for the channels being sent (e.g. For the vocalist: the 4 volume controls on the box would control their mic, control the volume for the guitar, bass and drums).
Additional bonus points for allowing us to "lock" a single preset designated to a single channel while still being able to change my own presets on the guitar. For example, I would bring up the mixer view, then add a preset called "Vocal Chain" to the vocals. But, still be able to go to different presets for my guitar that would not affect the vocals. Obviously, may have to limit what effects could be added to that vocal chain effect and only "lighter" effects could be used and choices would have to be severely limited. But, it would be cool to have.
Again, these are just some ideas. Hopefully, some of these will be implemented? Looking forward to future updates.
