I'm going back and forth on a couple of amps, and the Catalyst is a frontrunner for a number of reasons, but there's one thing I can't find a lot of info on that I hope someone here can shed some light on.
As a stand-alone machine, how complete is the Catalyst? Can I get everything out of it without using the app, or is the external software essential to adjusting tones and effects?
The fact is, there are plenty of once-awesome things that had a software component to help people "get the most" of their hardware, and almost as many have been abandoned, not been updated in years, and either already unable to run on today's PCs and phones or headed in that direction.
