clay-man
I replaced my Volume and Tone pots because they were extremely loose. New ones feel great. VDI sounds just fine. I tried the 1/4 jack and all I hear is this really quiet buzzing noise. Absolutely no sound other than that. Did I miss something? Can someone help please? Charlie_Watt
Check all of your connections. Maybe one of the cables isn't seated in it's connector. VDI and 1/4 are different outputs from the board.

I tried soldering the pots in as best as I can. None of them look like they're soldered wrong, no cold joints. Both pots work 100% in VDI just fine. I tried moving the coffin around, nothing happens, sometimes it makes noise in the audio, but barely anything. No buzzing when touching metal parts on the guitar, so I'm assuming it's not a grounding issue I had like before. Kind of a bummer to not be able to use it without a POD, but I'd like to fix it if I can.
clay-man
Does anyone have any info of where the analog audio comes from on the Variax?
Charlie_Watt
Try to follow the wire back from the center of the 1/4 inch jack and see if you can spot the analog stuff. Maybe there is a broken wire or damaged component. I have never seen a schematic so I can't help you any more than that.

Maybe there is a broken wire or damaged component. I have never seen a schematic so I can't help you any more than that. The worst thing I can think of is that I burnt a component during soldering. I was having trouble getting the volume pot out until I tried another technique to pull it out. Hard to heat up 6 solder points at once unless you use a lot of solder to transfer heat. Another possibility I can think of is that the pots aren't soldered in 100% correct which is crazy because I swear they're soldered in fine. I melted the solder multiple times to check and the VDI part still sounds fine. The reason I think this is because before I changed the pots, the volume pot had a problem where the 1/4 volume would crackle and be cut out at very specific spots of being turned. It sounded like a grounding issue, as when I touched the strings or metal I could hear a little bit of buzz. The thing is though, that there is no buzzing sound when touching any metal so I'm conflicted about it being the same problem or a grounding problem, so there must be a part that I need to check.
