ronherdt
I bought a used POD at a pawnshop today. It's red and says POD. It doesn't say POD 2.0, so I'm guessing it to be an earlier version. I can't find an owner's manual on this website for it. The only one I found is for the 2.0, which has some differences. I plugged my FBV Express MKII into it and hooked up an ethernet cable from the FBV to my POD. It doesn't seem to be working. So, here are my questions: 1) Does the FBV Express MKII work with the original POD (I'm assuming mine is the original POD)? 2) Where can I get an owner's manual for the POD? I see one for the POD 2.0, but not POD. 3) Do any of the Line 6 editors work on my POD, or do I need a newer POD, like a POD 2.0? 4) Can I use any Ethernet cable, or is the LIne 6 one a special cable? In the attached photos, the POD when hooked up to the FBV Express MKII and the FBV Express MKII via USB cable to my computer, the POD is lit manual and tab/tempo is blinking. It won't come off manual. The floor pedal only has the light on VOL, indicating the pedal is in volume mode, not wah. Nothing else, the floor controller is otherwise, unlit. Thanks for your help. Mr_Arkadin
1. No. Only the Line 6 FloorBoard or FB4 (? not sure) will work. Unplug the FBV. 2. Don't know, I'll have a dig around 3. I think Pod 1 will only work with the long gone SoundDiver. Try this link for a possible solution: http://clients.teksavvy.com/~ccoutlee/podman.htm 4. No. It is a CAT-5 connector but it is not Ethernet protocol. Do not plug in any computer or other Ethernet device. Check that it hasn't been updated to 2.0: Q: How do I find the current version of the POD EPROM?A: To find the current version of software installed in your POD, press and hold the MANUAL button while turning on the POD. The display will first read "POD" and then the software version will follow. Continue to hold the button until the preset shows up and you will be sure to see the complete version. Upon normal power up, it will only show version 2.0.

Since the POD and POD 2.0 do not have a USB built in, they have no way to communicate online for updates. Too bad. Looks like I'll be selling both of them as they are outdated equipment. This is wrong info my man and I am not sure where you got it from. Go here: http://line6.com/support/page/kb/_/effects-controllers/fbv-mki-mkii-controllers/the-complete-line-6-pedal-compatibility-faq-r58 A true 2.0 will have "FBV" above the port. I have used the MKII Express and MKI FBV with it (and the older FBX longboard) with no issues. Communication with the PC is done using a midi/usb cable for use with the L6 editing programs. -B
ronherdt
Great advice. I now own 2 POD devices, the older one and a 2.0. Both have a floor controller marked "Pedal" so that limits the floor controllers to 2, one of which is the red 4 button model FB4. I'll see if I can locate one and try it out. I ordered a MIDI to USB device so soon I can try out the connection via MIDI. That makes sense to me now. If all goes well, I can communicate via MIDI with my computer and communicate to an FB4 floor controller with either of my PODs. Thanks everyone for putting me on the correct track with your advice. I have lots of Line 6 equipment and love it all. Variax 300, Variax 500, Variax Acoustic Electric 700, POD XT Live, PODHD500, POD, POD 2.0, FVB Express MKII.
