richb1
Is anyone specifically using a Taylor T5 with the HD500X? I play in a duo and I am considering the 500X to use in order to bring some new tones, effects, etc. into our duo. What I'm specifically interested in is if anyone is using this setup live, and adding a little drive to their T5, and how you like it. Thanks for sharing ant experience. billlorentzen
I had a T5 for trial for a few weeks and had mixed results with my HD. The cleans were pretty good, and I liked the acoustic tones fairly well. However I did not get great crunchy sounds myself. I heard a demo video from Taylor in whic they got a really cool medium distortion sound, but they didn't show what the amp was. I was unable to get such a nice sound myself. yairiguru
I have been playing a T5 custom koa in the studio and live going on 9 years. I love the tone and flexibility. Just recently started using it with a HD500x. It is taking some time to get the tone honed in, but i am getting there. I have found that most patches created for a strat, tele or les paul definitely need tweaking before i can get the tone i prefer. My setup may be a bit unusual in that i use acoustic strings for electric work. This helps with the crunchy tone right out of the chute in my opinion. I then have to really up the compression and tweak the amp gain to get the crunchy sustained lead tome that i use for a lot of my work, including slide numbers. A trick i have used is puttng double blue compressors on the front end. Between the compressors and the gain tweaking it works pretty good. Its not the same sound i used to get with my pedalboard and amp, but it is really good. I go straight out to the PA for live work and direct in for recording. Not sure what tone color you are looking for, but with some patience i think you can get clsoe to most anything you need, but it does take considerable time in getting there. -Dave
WithALoudNoise
I am using a T5 with the HD500X. My best setup uses the four cable method between the Pod and an Egnater Tweaker 40. The sound is sick. I am also working with it as a direct setup. It takes a bit of work tweaking the tones but I am having great results. Still, using the HD500X as an effects loop with the tube goodness of the Tweaker is phenomenal.
ebrady
I use the T5 and HD500X direct into the mixing board. I've found getting clean sounds comes fairly easy. I'm still not completely there with the crunch sounds, but have started getting good results by changing my way of thinking. Coming from an electric guitar background I've found the T5 to be a totally different beast. When looking for a moderate distortion I went for the amps I would normally use with my solid body electric guitar (with unsucessful results). After working with different amps I've found the Tweed model set clean seems to work the best for me. I place a tube overdrive into a tube screamer into a tube compressor before the amp. Most of the drive coming from the tube overdrive. I have the tube screamer set fairly low to add a little brilience back in. Anyway I hope it helps. But as stated above it does take time to get there.
