Low pass filter for muffled-to-clear transition?

Recommended Posts

I have a Pod XT Live with the Effects, Classic, Metal, and Bass packs, and a second Line6 expression pedal. I'm trying to replicate the effect of slowly transitioning the tone of what I'm playing from a muffled, "heard through the walls" sound to a clear, up-front sound. You can hear the effect on songs such as Maroon 5's "Moves Like Jagger" when Christina Aguilera starts her verse -- it's muffled and slowly transitions to clear as if someone was turning a guitar tone knob up.

My guitars' tone knobs don't get dark/muffled enough, and a wah doesn't yield the effect without getting quacky. I'm thinking a low pass filter set to let the low frequencies through, and an expression pedal changing the mix from 100% filter to 0% would do the trick.

Anybody know how to pull this off? I've experimented with a few of the effects but haven't even come close.

Thanks for any ideas!

-Mike
