Hblum01
So i wanted to pick the brains of my fellow helixes and see what the best set up would be to use the digitech trio. Most of you probably know what it is but for the few that don't -- it uses band in a box technology and harmony sensing software to come up with bass and drum backing when you play something on guitar. It has an input for guitar and then 2 outputs -- one to go straight to amp and one that would be meant for a mixer -- for the drum and bass parts. It has smart sensing inputs -- so if you have one plug going into the amp output -- it will disable the mixer output and all sounds will go to the amp output -- eq'ed appropriately to sound decent through a typical guitar speaker. If you only plug out of the mixer output it will add a generic cabinet simulation so that the guitar tones will sound ok when going straight a mixer and if both are used then it will split the signals appropriately. So the dilemma is how to set it up so I have the least impact on tone and also don't increase the volume of the guitar signal when playing through it as opposed to bypassing it. I figured a mono fx loop was the most appropriate block. If I put it at the end of my chain following reverb and before the looper block I can get a decent signal EXCEPT the guitar signal gets louder when I initiate that block -- because the guitar signal is getting both the initial input in helix and then the send signal which is then coming back with the return. Option two would be to go 1st into trio then out via guitar output into helix then have a return only for the mixer output at the same point before the looper. The downside here I think would be some loss of fidelity -- using the trio as 1st inline instead the likely superior input on helix straight from guitar. So what do you guys think? (sorry for the ridiculously long post....) Howie
