Rudi_Moe
Hey guys, I have a realy strange problem with my HD 500X. I'm using a Jim Root #4 Dark Terror with the pod and connected it over the 4 cable method. I connected it just like in the image below with a Korg tuner between the guitar and the POD: So far so good! For several days everything went just fine and I even managed to get a realy nice and warm clean sound out of the Dark Terror even if it was digital. But one day when we practiced I noticed that after 20 minutes the sound was getting muddy, silent or louder for 1 or 2 seco nds, the sound lost gain also for 1 or 2 se conds and than total silence....already checked my Amp at a workshop but everything seems alright! If I plug the Amp withot the 500X then everything works just fine...if i Plug the 500X into the PA than everything is ok but the sound is too quiet to play along with a drumset and if i turn the PA louder than the sound gets too muddy. Well you might say that the ports on the 500X might be broken but here is the strange part: Last week I plugged the POD like always to the Dark Terror just to try out if it works because while there is life, there is hope right? ;) As I expected nothing happened...what a dissapointment! I turned my Amp into standby mode and took a break. After half an hour or something I turned the switch to 15W as usual and didn't think about the 500X still plugged into the amp. I was realy surprized after I realized that everything worked just like before! I could play for hours wihout any problems. I left everything plugged until next day and it also worked immediately. Yesterday after the weekend I plugged in my guitar, turned on the POD, switsched the amp to 15W and...nothing! :o Switched amp into standby, waited for 30 minutes...nothing! :( Tried out on our leadguitarrist's amp...nothing! I'm realy desperate right now! Are there any suggestions or anyone who has the same problem? I realy like the POD and would like to use it on stage soon but with these issues it is just not possible! Brazzy
That would trow me for a loop too. I don't have any answer for you but you might want to do a support ticket or call Line 6 tech. It's possible you might have a power supply failure. Can you check to see if your PSU is ok?
Rudi_Moe
Thank you for your advice :) The PSU seems to be ok...I mean the POD works just fine! Its more like the issue is in the fx loop. Is there any other way how i can plug the POD into the Terror except only over the input port of the amp?

Do you mean no sound but the pod was on. Maybe you have a corrupt patch and need to try to rebuild it. A couple times I built patches I ran into a glitch that would reset the mixer volume to mute. I don't know why. I rebuilt the patches and one time I re-flashed the firmware and ditched saving my old patches. Basically started over fresh and rebuilt my patches taking my time with the settings and saving.

Yes the POD is on but i can't hear a sound...I think I remember installing the latest patch before I got this issue! But I'm not sure... I'll try to downgrade the POD and give you a feedback soon :) thank you!
Rudi_Moe
you can connect the HD500 1/4" jack output directly to the "return" input of your amp FX Loop, ie directly to the power amp part of your amp thus bypassing the Dark Terror pre-amp part and its eq controls. . doing so you'll need to use the pre-amp models of your POD and set the proper POD output mode (combo power amp) at page 4 of the system settings Thank you for your advice! I'll try it as soon as I get my hands on the POD :) If this does not work than maybe it is realy the software. I'll give an update as soon as i can. I'm not sure if it will help but you could try to rebuild the patch in another blank unused set list first before you try to re-flash the firmware. Keep in mind I have the HD500 not the 500X. I've been able to try your advice yesterday and so far it seems to work! I will try again today and hope that it still works ;)
