frstrat
Hey all, I'm a happy owner of an 89F. Does anyone know if it's possible to upgrade the trem block on these guitars? If so can it be done by my local luthier? I obviously don't want to mess with any of the modeling. thanks
ice9mike
The block has a rather large circle drilled out of it to allow the piezo cables to pass through it and into the CPU compartment. I'm not sure if the cables are long enough to be routed around a new block. I suppose an upgraded trem block could also have a large circle machined out of it, but that defeats the purpose of the upgrade.
frstrat
Hmmm, yea I found myself wondering the same thing. Will probably just stay with the trem as is. Thanks for the insight, ice9mike.
katiekerry
well that depends on what the trem block is made of (if its those crappy cast ones) your better off with Steel or Brass.. makes a huge difference.. I put brass on my Strat and wow that thing just sings now and the sustain is crazy on it...
frstrat
Very true - I've upgraded to the blocks on my other Floyds and it does make a difference. But if I have to get a hole drilled in a block to thread the wiring harness or if the trem ends up impinging on the wires in the cavity, then I'm not sure it's worth it.
