stumblinman
I just swapped the A5 magnet out of my backup LP's bridge pickup. It was a SD vintage 59 and I swapped it to A2. Big difference. Makes my backup guitar playable. Cuts through the mix better for my tones. I've come to discover I like A2 magnets best. My main reason for this post is: what's your favorite pickup magnet, and have you swapped magnets to compare? I have another A2 I'm going to put into my 3rd LP which has a SD Custom 5 in the bridge and make it a Custom Custom. Looking forward to the results. Anyone else using a Custom Custom that can provide input on what it sounds like?
stumblinman
Wow. Zero replies. Not a lot of pickup tinkerers here eh? Well, for the record, I like the alnico 2 magnets much better in these pickups. If you have some quality pickups lying around that just don't sound quite how you like, but they are close, try swapping for different magnets. It's a simple process that can bring lonely parts-drawer pickups back into the fold. Plus, it's fun to mod stuff.
