POD HD crackling noise to no sound, unless I hit the strings really hard.

Recently my trusty POD HD bean has been failing on me. I have sound from the pc without any problems, but the sound from the guitar started fail. I get a crackling noise to no sound whatsoever, unless I strum really hard, seriously hard. Somedays, after a while it starts working just fine, others, works fine at first until the sound starts getting weird.
No change on my presets, everything updated, tried both guitars, different cables, but the resutl is the same. Sometimes I works fine, others I get this weird problem. I've tried different presets, created new ones, but the result is the same... any ideas what could it be?

It could perhaps be a hardware problem in the input stage on the motherboard, for example one or more damaged capacitors that need to be replaced.

Check also the mic input, if it works well it means that the problem is only on the guitar input which is equipped with an analog circuit with variable impedance (try changing the impedance value via the input setting).

You can also try reinstalling the firmware and then doing a global reset (but first save your presets on the computer), I don't think it will help in this case but you never know.

Electronics skills are probably necessary to resolve the problem.

Thanks for the quick reply, I've already reinstalled the firmware and made a factory reset but no luck
Guess it will have to visit the service, since took off the back plate but there are no visible damaged capacitors. I'll try changing the impedance value, but since this error is kinda random (Like last night, the pod worked like a charm) I think one cap is going to give up sooner or later.

The problem could also be due instead to old solder joints of some SMD components that need to be reflowed, as described in the following post:
