" I ended up buying a Pod HD500X, but it came defective.

The expression pedal works when I move it up and down, but I can't turn it on or off using the expression pedal itself. It works for both wah-wah and volume, but I can't switch from wah-wah to volume or vice-versa using the expression pedal.

I've already calibrated, formatted, and updated it, but nothing works.

I tested the Optek OP580 phototransistor, and they are working because when I use the effect that comes directly from the factory bank, it works; I just can't turn it on or off.

I've already cleaned it, sent it for servicing, replaced the capacitor on the pedal's circuit board, and it still doesn't work.

When opening the pedal's activation foot, I observed that there are three iron plates that, when pressed, make contact with the board and turn it on and off.

I hope to find a solution."

my reply:

--> same spare part for HD500 and HD500X but very hard to find

A green printed circuit board (PCB) with a button, connectors, and a wire. It features various electronic components and solder points.

my reply:

Always make sure the Wah and Volume are assigned to different EXP modes (1 or 2) and never to the same mode.

If the toe switch under the rubber ring for turning the assigned effects on and off and switching between EXP modes (1 or 2) doesn't work, it should be replaced.
(However keep in mind that the toe switch, especially if it's relatively new and hasn't been used much, requires a certain amount of force/weight to operate properly, therefore you need to put your weight on the pedal when needed; in the past, some have thinned the rubber ring to make the toe switch less hard to activate.)

An alternative solution is to add an external expression pedal so that the onboard pedal always works in one EXP mode and the external pedal in the other EXP mode. However, in this case, to turn the Wah on and off (not necessary also for the Volume), you'll need to assign the Wah effect to one of the unassigned footswitches.
