The first step for updating is downloading and installing HX Edit 3.0

I've previously had no update problems with other versions. But now I have an hx edit issue. Mac. High sierra. I download version 3.0. it shows in my downloads as version 3.0. I click on it to open it. Still shows version 3.0. when it starts to unpack it then shows itself as 2.92....any idea why ? I've tried uninstalling 2.92 and starting again...several times. Always the same.
