  1. Thanks for the suggestion! I'll wait.
  2. Thanks for the information and help offer. I worked with midi functions with my old Flextone about 10 years ago. So I understand it a little, but I am sure the technology has changed some over the years with a lot more manufacturers making controllers now. I have already read the Pilots Guide, but will google MIDI basics and check out YT to get up to speed. Also, Line 6 YouTube channel has two videos on using midi with the Catalyst and I plan to watch those between now and Thursday. Just got an email that the amp is shipping today and expected delivery is Thursday. My long term plan is to get an HX Effects to pair with the amp but it will probably be a few months. I want to sell some things I don't use any more first. I was thinking if I could pick up something reasonable between now and then, I would if it would still be useful after I get the HX Effects. Until I can decide what I need, I'll probably just dive in on the amp and use the phone and computer w/ the edit app so I know more about what I should get later. No sense in spending $$ on things that I wont need once I get the HX Effects. What I'm looking to do is exactly what you posted, switch Banks, switch Channels within Banks, and toggle the Boost, Effect and Reverb, and from the videos I have watched, it looks like the HXE can do all that and more. Once I get some time on the amp, I'll get into setting up specific presets for different songs/groups. Mostly what I play is Classic Rock to 80's & 90's alternative so I know I want more than what the LFS2 is capable of. Thanks again for the info, and if you think I should wait and just get the HXE in a few months, let me know what you think. Byrdman
  3. Went to GC to try out the 2x12. Musicians Friend has them advertised for $409.99, so GC matched it. IMO, that's a hell of a deal for this amp. Unfortunately, they only had a floor model in Lakeland FL, so mine is on the way from the distribution center. I didn't know at the time, but Musicians Friend is also owned by the same parent co as GC. I did not buy the foot switch because I want more than just 2 switches. Anyone have a suggestion for a reasonable multi button FS I can use with this? Probably only need 4-6 buttons, but more is always better IMO. Anyway, looking forward to getting it and dialing it in. Any suggestions are wanted and encouraged!
  4. That's great you are starting to dial in the sound on it. Sometimes it takes a while. Also, pickup height adjustments are very often overlooked as well. As far as the pickups go, I have always liked to tinker with stuff, so I don't changing things. Also, there are a lot of great YT videos on how to set up intonation, string height, neck adjustments, etc. so dont be afraid to mess around with those adjustments too. BTW, I just bought the 2x12 yesterday. The only one they had was the floor model at GC, so mine should be here in a few days. I did not buy the foot pedal with mine. I'm going to try to buy a multi button midi and see how that works. I probably only need about 3-4 buttons, but definitely more than 2.
  5. I know you may not want to do this, but you can always change pickups & wiring in the Epi. I have an Epi 335 and it sounded only okay with the stock pickups. I put two Gibson Classic 57's in it and it sounds incredible. I also changed the wiring to Tone Man 50's style while I was in there. Getting everything in the F-Holes was a PITA, but it was worth it and you wont have a difficult time doing it in a LP or similar style with the rear access hole. Every Epi I have owned, I have changed the pickups and wiring, and I love Epi's too.
  6. Sounds great guys! Thanks for the info! I know some may not like doing things on the computer, but I dont mind at all. I'm currently using a NUX MG300 and I always build my patches with the software then tweak it on the MG300 if needed. Looks like I may be getting that Cat 200 sooner, it seems to be on sale out there with a few resellers. Thanks again! Byrdman
  7. I forgot to ask, do any of you use HX Edit software to set everything up? Or do you just use the unit to do everything?
  8. Great to know! I will check it out. I think over the next few months, we may see some more items on sale industry wide to clear out year end inventory.
  9. Thank you so much for the information! This really cleared up a lot of questions. Being familiar with Line 6, I know I will be able to do everything I need with those 6 amps + HXFX. Plus the tone sharing page looks like it will help to get started as well. If I need additional options, I can always add them later with a midi FS. Thanks again for all the info! I will probably have additional questions soon.
  10. Good day! Long time since I have been here. Looking at a 2x12 200w Cat to buy between now and the end of the year. I'm pretty familiar with Line 6 and had a Duoverb and Flextone III in the early/mid 2000's and looking to get back into amp modeling for practice and the occasional gig using FS presets & effects. Obviously, I think I need to buy the amp, play with it a little then decide what additional accessories will be needed, but I have a few questions in the meantime to cut down on the rabbit-hole research activities. I play some alternative 80's & 90's stuff along with other classic rock/grunge/etc, so more than one effect will be needed at a time to be accessed by FS's, so I was thinking about combining this amp with either the HX Effects + additional midi FS, Stomp + additional midi FS, or Stomp XL. Questions: Does anyone use the Cat with the HX's listed above and can give a bullet-point +/-'s of using it like this for what I want to do? Are additional amp modeling with Stomp & XL really needed with this amp? If not, can an HX Effects with a midi FS for effects and presets work well? Should a POD Go be a consideration? Any other options I should be looking at? I have about $1200 budget to buy what I need for a one and done setup so Helix is out of the question even though I know this would probably be the best route. Plus, I don't want to be stuck with wasted $$ on a ton of gear that collects dust. Thanks!! Byrdman
