  1. pan- controller.....that's it, thank you for the help. took me a minute to find it mike ps again thank you both
  2. Helix Floor 3.10 I'd like to be able to A/B amp select from the 1/4" outputs Left/mono to guitar amp Right to a leslie- or another amp or... a switch ( or cc# control) would be fine, or even an EXP pedal to select which output is active I am setting up a midi controller to control the Helix, pretty much like a chain of stompboxes. It'll live back by the amps Thanks, Mike
  3. finding a buzz...universal truths: a LOW hum usually indicates a ground loop- a BUZZ usually indicates a bad shield- allowing elecromagnetic field ( EMF) into the signal path plug straight into the amp, if you can affect the buzz with the volume/tone controls on the guitar there is an EMF, you can turn your body/guitar on axix to find the quietest position- 90ยบ from the loudest ( a Pal has this issue when the downstairs neighbor uses the dimmer in their dining room lamp). Light dimmers are a frequent cause of EMF/RF if that is not the issue- then add 1 device at a time, some pedals may pick up EM, or a patch cable with a bad shield- power supplies close? they can generate a field ESPECIALLY switching transformers- the 100 to 240 volt type- I've had a devil of time with an old Ross Comp which picked up radio stations- in the end I built a farraday cage around it out of copper sheeting ( from a roof project) to shield from radio waves/EMF it's a matter of being methodical and understanding that adding gain to he guitar will add gain to any noise - signal to noise ratio - this ratio shoul dbe a constant if you use solderless cables, check the ends
  4. I had experience with the early G system- we "needed" to use favored analog effects pedals in the loops- the G system did not have the headroom to accept our typical gain pedals cleanly- the guitar used had some of the electronics of the Clapton Strat and the g system couldn't handle the wide dynamic range. In the end it went from the band's lead guitarist to the supporting guitarist who had a narrower range of needs. Even so we absolutely needed to use some other pedals- ..and life has changed since then With current guitarist, very exacting and demanding- we started with the HXFX and had some very impressive result right off with a variety of the effects, we notice ( as yet) no latency through the a/d converters. We have just purchased a helix and will continue to explore the technology using ONLY the effects as we have amps we are very happy with ( and although using line6 and other modellers since the 90's..if you have a Hiwatt or a tweed or a trainwreck, well just use the real thing). the first thing you will gain is the increase is processing power, converters, bitrate- etc, and the experience of millions of users over many many years, to detail which features are truly useful. we don;t know if the helix will replace the effects in a switching system with 30 loops- but it's a lot lighter! some of the effects we like have character with we think we will need to retain and use with helix- a boomerrang V1 not only has sound, but the operation is quick/easy- also the Whammy V2 has a charm to the imprecise sound- as does the old ibanez dm2000 with the mod and hold functions. if unsure and are amazon prime member, get one there- returns are easy cheers
  5. Volume Block idea is kinda what I was thinking as well; a virtual device toggling opposite the delay with output set to zero- a "null" device BTW the audio signal is coming line level post power section of a tube amp ( many use an attenuator such as THD Hoplate to get a line level signal to feed effects) I'm using something else, but same principal. thanks for your help and attention Mike update, works a treat- using one of the gates as a mute. I still have alot of work to do!
  6. The effects are in parallel- the idea is to not "reverb the delay"...and not "delay the reverb" incoming mono audio, splits into 2 parallel paths, reverb in A at 100% ( so no dry signal coming through) and the delay in B at 100% the 2 paths combine to a mono output ( which goes to power amp and "wet" speaker" cab) at present when I bypass the delay I have dry signal bleeding through which upsets the dry/wet balance of the multi speaker set up ( via midi I must be able to control tempo by tap and also bypass JUST the delay. this also introduces phasing issues as the signal running through the HX Effects is delayed/latent by the a/d/a convertors and is apparent in reference to the dry signal- and appears variable depending on processing power used in practice the reverb is a constant, giving a little hang to the note the delays chosen would vary from a little slap to a band pass filtered delay to 1/4 or dotted 8th etc etc as appropriate I have a device presently which give plate or spring emulation ( preset selection of type) and "tape" or Digi delay emulation. signal path in [arellel, wet only delay tap and bypass control The HX offers so many additional options if I can get similar control Thanks, Mike
  7. Looking to take advantage of the HX Effects in a dry/wet amplifier scheme Here is what I need: Wet only, never any dry signal passed Parallel reverb and delay. these will both be set to 100% The reverb will likely be always on The delay will be sent tempo and delay bypass via midi controller. When bypassed it must be "killdry" Cursory look I have a reverb sound I like, and a delay sound I like. signal path is parallel mix at 100% for both effects My problem is bypassed delay passes dry guitar signal- how can i set up a killdry? Thanks!
  8. so not 'solved' ... yet unless I am missing something Thanks TS
  9. had a look at the jzab utility, and it seems to go from HD500 to HD pro, but not the other way. Thanks, TS
  10. I have a fairly extensive and "perfectly " programmed show written into a HDPro. I need a back up unit and have at my disposal a HD500. I have tried moving presets individually ( drag and drop) and setlists by changing file extension. in each case I get a dialog that " invalid data found in one or more patches. These patches have been reset and named New Tone ( reset)" ...so no contents. please talk me thru this like I'm a 6 year-old. Using a mac mavericks, I have the editor for each unit. Thanks, TS
