  1. I know this has been discussed previously but now that Line6 are releasing the Helix range of processors I'd love it if they could develop some means of switching models and tunings wirelessly. I have a Line6 G50 wireless but it is pointless to be going wireless (audio) if you still need to be tethered for data. I imagine that they could develop a very small wireless transmitter that would plug directly into the Variax port on the Helix (powered by the Helix) and a corresponding receiver that would plug directly into the VDI port on the Variax (powered by the variax battery). I'm imagining something around the size of this mi.1 wireless midi device that is under development. https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/mi-1-wireless-midi-interface-connecting-digital-piano-and-ios-device#/story If they were able to bring something like this out it would be amazing and allow me to use my Variax completely wirelessly (the way it should be).
  2. I've noticed that this only happens on the magnetic pickups and not the models. I am connected with a standard guitar cable. No VDI connection.
  3. I have noticed that when I roll up or down the volume pot I get a pronounced hum/noise in the middle of the sweep. Is anyone else having this issue? It is loudest half way. As soon as I back off my volume pot just a bit it is there. Very annoying.
  4. I'm not sure if anyone else has noticed this but when i put the magnetic neck pickup only on I get absolutely no 5th fret harmonics. I guesse this has some thing to do with the pickup placement and some sort of cancellation. Is this normal for strats? It is very frustrating.
  5. I mentioned in my original post that I am unplugging the guitar when not in use. No 1/4 inch plug or VDI or anything. I have not charged the guitar that many times as i've had the guita for about 6 months and this has been happen for most of it.
  6. Every time I charge my battery I put it in the guitar and play for a bit. I unplug it and put it down for a couple of days and the battery is completely dead. What the hell is going on? I haven't used the digital modelling for months now because of this problem. Very frustrating.
  7. Well I'm aware of that but that is kinda hard to do whilst playing. I'm not sure about everybody else but my JTV69 is really hard/awkward to switch in and out. Anyway, Like I said, nevermind.
  8. But then I wouldn't be able to switch between 100% magnetic bridge which would have to be position 1 to a blend of magnetic bridge and modeled pickup which also would have to be position 1. See what I mean? Anyway, don't worry about it too much. As I said, I'll live with out it.
  9. I was mucking around with mixing the Magnetic pickups on my JTV69 the other day. It's a kinda interesting capability. Pretty cool. One thing I noticed is that the magnetic pickup being blended is entirely dependent on what position your pickup selector is set to. For example in workbench I set position 1 to be 100% Magnetic Bridge and I tried to make position 2 to be a blend of Mag Bridge and Lester Bridge but of course position 2 is engaging both Middle and Bridge Magnetic pickups. Ultimately I'm saying it'd be great to be able to assign any magnetic pickup to any pickup position when the modelling is engaged. However I do doubt that this would be possible considering the pickups are hardwired. Just a thought anyway.
  10. I'm just wondering if anyone has managed to, or has any idea how you might be able to switch presets etc on the Variax wirelessly? I was thinking if perhaps a bluetooth receiver could be plugged in the VDI on the Variax and send change messages via a laptop (Ableton). I use a different midi controller called Gordius Little Giant 2 and I connect it to and control both my Axe Fx 2 and my laptop running Ableton. I was thinking I could get the computer to wirelessly communicate midi from my Gordius (midi controller) over bluetooth (perhaps) and change the patches on the Variax wirelessly. Your thoughts?
  11. Believe it or not I finanlly managed to get the Firmware installed after charging the battery and uplugging all other USB devices. And after that everything seemed to be working properly for the first time ever. It was actually good! I'm still shocked myself. I too agree. I use both Fractal Audio and Line 6 gear and I like the Variax but I swear if it were made by Fractal I'm sure it would just work so much better. I'm Surprised the Variax has a VDI connection and not just a cannon USB. I would think that would be better to not need the USB/VDI dongle.
  12. OK I've noticed that The Variax Firmware has not updated to 2.10 and is currently on v2.0. I am now trying to do that and it's not working. I have the guitar plugged into the computer via the USB/VDI thing (both green lights). I have a guitar jack plugged into the Output jack. I have the Variax switched on and the model dial light is lit. When the update starts processing it says "Updating flash memory, Writing..." and then there is a slight click from the guitar and the Variax switches off and I get the following pop up.
  13. As far as i know it's the latest. I just updated the workbench thing and I couldn't find a separate firmware file for the guitar itself, and Line6 Monkey says that I'm current. The cable is Mono guitar cable. I have no idea what you're talking about here. I'm only using Variax and Axe Fx, no other Line6 peripherals.
  14. This is seriously driving me nuts. Firstly every time I connect my JTV69 to the computer It doesn't recognise the guitar and says it is not connected. When I try to rescan it 9 times out of 10 it will come up as nothing connected and eventually if it does connect it will state that it is a JTV59 which in fact it is not. When I try to upload or download anything from the guitar it brings up a pop up saying "One or more presets Failed to load from the guitar. (code8000000a) Operation timed out." And on top of this everytime I try to plug the guitar output jack into my Axe FX whilst using Workbench I get a flashing red light on the USB dongle thing. If I uplug the jack into the input of my Axe Fx but leave the other end of the lead remaining in the guitar I get both green lights. So this means I cannot edit with workbench and hear the guitar at the same time (even if I could get workbench to communicate with the guitar). Seriously, WTF??!!
  15. I tried it about 7 or so times last night. I'll try it again. Grrrr. Have you guys definitey got it working on your guitars?
  16. Yes I have firmware 2 and I've been trying to do it with Workbench HD.
  17. Is it possible to upload the JTV89 High gain bank to a JTV 69. I read that some people had managed to do it and were happy with it but I have had no luck at all with getting it to run. I downloaded the bank, opened Workbench, uploaded 89 bank it to Custom 1 in Workbench and then highlighted custom bank 1 and clicked upload to variax. It went through the motions but when I play the guitar Custom 1 is completely silent. Every other bank works fine. What is going on here?
  18. For some reason I cannot load anything to the guitar when using the HD Workbench. Every time I try to make changes it says the following Failed to write data to the guitar. (code 80001074) Failed to write to firmware. I have no idea what to do but every time I try to upload to the Custom 1 bank it ends up as an empty bank with no sound at all. While all other banks are working fine. It is starting to really drive me up the wall!
