How Do You Conect Your Ipad...

I have the Stagescape, an Apple Airport Express, ethernet cable and USB to ethernet adapter. I have tried plugging in every different combo and reset both parties. Still cannot get my iPad to connect to the mixer. What have I missed? Do I have to have a laptop and or anything else to go with this setup?
