  1. The clicks/crackles were a glitch, yes. But the CPU limitation was the real reason I had to switch. It took me really trying to get the AXE FX to run out of CPU... You pay a LOT more for that extra CPU, but for me I had to have it. I uploaded the presets, so what would be interesting would be for someone to try on a different unit and see if they hear the same thing. My setup: ESP Eclipse I Japan 18v --> Line6 G50 --> HD500X --> XLR --> Yamaha DXR10 (line level). I think the HD500X is a great unit for the price, but just needed more CPU and if I get better Amps/Cabs in the deal it was worth it to me.
  2. I was editing directly on the device. I was not able to solve the strange clicks that would randomly happen when switching amps. I think it's just the nature of the processor not being able to handle the switching. Any little noise and the delay just grabs it... I actually just returned my hd500X. I finally got the Axe FX AX8 and I like it better (was hoping to save money and get by with the POD, but the CPU could not handle the effects I needed--I often use more than one delay and a pitch effect at the same time, just wasn't gonna happen and still get reverb with this unit). I did make a few decent patches that sounded pretty good through a P.A. They are using the treadplate (the only usable metal amp on this imo). DLS APC - A basic punchy clean with delay I use to palm mute rythms, with dist. DLS CLN - A basic clean/dirty DLS HYD - Dist w/ a pitch effect for evil leads DLS NEW - A flangy clean with dist DLS - My stock rhythm tone DLS TALLICA - Optimized rhythm tone for Metallica (mainly more gain and EQ tweak) https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/58368195/Fefs%20Patches.zip The 'Tallica preset is actually pretty good, I haven't beat it yet on the Axe FX in the first couple of hours. Thanks to those of you that helped!
  3. There were a few interesting concepts in the signal chain, but other than that the patches were terrible. Way too much gain, artifacts up in the highs, clipping from the compressor and tube screamer, not a single a/b amp patch, way too saturated effects, and the volume levels all over the place. I agree with pianoguy, the factory presets made more sense... That being said: Anyone have any idea about #1 above? Are clicking noises normal when using a fs to switch an amp off and another on? Is there a better way to get clean/dirty in a single patch? Thx!
  4. I figured out the patch volume thing... I had to switch the amp by turning the 1 knob, then switch all the settings back again. Now it is working. I'm guess it is because that patch originated on the net, something jacked up. Issue #2 closed. So still looking for advice on issue #1 :)
  5. LOVE the HD500X so far, was able to get it up and running in just a few hours with giggable tones. The only disappointment for me was some patches I found on the internet and paid for were basically worthless, so I had to build my own (seriously, the compressor was distorting the whole signal chain, the effects order was silly, etc.). Here are the 2 things I need help with, hopefully someone has an answer! 1) I have two different amps in the same patch so that I can switch between a clean/dirty sound. I tried switching between 2 different patches, but the sound noticeably drops when you switch (guessing a dsp limitation on the unit?). I assigned both amps to a footswitch (fs1) so I can toggle between the amps. The problem is I hear an audible click at times when it switches. Almost like the noise of the actual footswitch is carrying through the signal chain. With delay on the clicking noise even repeats (yikes). What's the best way to switch between dirty/clean? Is there a fix for this? 2) I have a patch that won't save the volume on the amp. Every time I save it, go to a different preset, then return the volume is back to the original setting. I even made a copy of it and the copy does the same thing. All the other parameters in the patch will save, just the amp volume reverts... Ideas? I am on the latest firmware and have the latest amp packs installed. Everything else in the unit is working flawless. Thanks for the help!
  6. I've read that you can setup an expression pedal to be "bad horsie" like. Is this true? I just ordered my hd500x, and I want to use expression pedal 2 in this way. I want to use a spring loaded Mission EP1-L6 and have it engage the wah or whammy when pressed down. Is this possible? (My current real pedals work this way, will be a big deal if I can't do this on the hd500x). Also, can you use an external momentary switch (or even re-assign the tap switch) to do momentary effects? (I use harmonizers, pitch benders, etc. a lot using a momentary latching switch currently). Thanks for the help, I'm a new Line6 user :)
