Which was what I suggested a few pages back to the OP. The Gigboard is a solid device. Good luck.

As a very general rule of thumb, distortion, overdrive, fuzz, and compressors before the amp and cab. Delays and reverbs after. Even those "rules" have examples of being broken successfully. Try stuff ... see if something inspires.

I believe my Stomp has the same behavior.

Hmmm ... missed the part about frfr. For that setup, it comes a bit down to taste, but my personal preference is to run the wet effects into an amp + cab into frfr.
-
If you're just plugging straight in, both.
-
Yes, it is. Tones saved on the app, PC or cloud are transferable.
-
Sadly, that's probably more true than I would care to admit.

To some degree that's exactly what a cab does. It adds that final flavor that brings it down to reality. At least in my experience, perhaps you might get solid sounds with no cab at low volumes, but if you were to pump them to performance levels I think you'd find that un toned down amp sound would suddenly sound screechy and ear drum deafening. On the subject of IRs - I would try them before you think it'll be the same deal as dialing in the stock cabs. Many people (I'd say "most" based on what I read) prefer IRs to the cab models. WIth IRs, they are already practically completed, there's really not a lot of need to dial them in any further except maybe for some high or low cuts or perhaps some volume enhancements. Even I have to admit, if you are creating a tone and you want to have the amp part finished in under 30 seconds, quickly grabbing one of your fave IRs is pretty powerful and fast. Myself, I'm a stock cab guy. Especially with the Stomp, which has a minimum of blocks, I like that I can have an amp and cab in one block. I also like all of the options stock cabs bring, but at first it is overwhelming. You have to learn how to tweak it all so that it gets the sound you're looking for. If you're interested in learning how to do it, check out the video below to start. Hell, I strongly advise you watch ALL of his videos even if you skip stock cabs and go with IRs.

By the way, what Midi controller are you using? Does it's preset up and down function not seem to work on the Stomp?
-
No, YOU CAN, but MIdi controllers typically have an inbuilt program that allows for it. It's not an actual stomp command. What they're really doing is saying something akin to: "Change to Present Stomp Preset + 1" or "Change to Present Stomp Preset -1". It's not actually a specific Stomp command. That's standard for most midi devices.
-
I was fine with you until you snuck in that mid & lowless dribble under the guise of showing us what REAL audio was. That's auditory torture on a waterboarding level. Bad form man.

You're correct about the Stomp. Tragically, it does not function much as a midi hub. It will take midi messages, and forward those on to other devices. That's still helpful, but beyond just regurgitating what it did (such as a program change) it can't do much more. Interesting thoughts on qualities of a clean mode. Clean settings (IMHO) is something any modeler had better be able to do worth its salt because at its most basic that's just amplifying the guitar's signal. The HX Stomp can knock that out of the park as well as anything, but I guess you'll have to decide. Finally, because I trust the Stomp both for distortion, clean, or whatever, I don't recommend connecting it to ANY traditional amp if you have a choice. I'm very much of the flat response speaker persuasion. With that said, if you were to connect it to the BlueGuitar Amp1 then I would suggest doing the four cable method. That would allow your stomp to have effects both before and after the amp. There are details on how to do that in the Stomp manual.

I admit I have a lot to learn in this area, but it's always been hard for me to raise the butthurt quotient level without name calling. Dialing that tonal combination in is a really tricky task.

Yeah . . . which I agree only makes sense for an acoustic signal. Everyone is absolutely right that a distorted signal it's pointless for. I was just glancing through the post when I replied. Phil probably meant he's never seen an electric guitar with a balanced out. It's probably less about a balanced signal anyway and more about being able to just plug in to a front of house setup.
-
Yeah . . . there isn't one. You can buy Midi controllers that essentially mimic this effect by automaticaly sending the program one number below or above your current program, but the Stomp doesn't have a next or previous midi message, which while common to midi . . . seems dumb. The closest it seems you can come is to send the midi command to change from stomp mode to preset select mode, and then use the Stomp to cycle up or down, then again midi back to stomp mode (or snapshot mode).

As a tidbit, messing with the Elephant Man last night, it didn't seem to be one of the more DSP heavy users in the HX. I really liked it. In fact, it inspired me to mess around with it last night because I didn't even realize it had a Memory Man model. At least for me, no desire to go buy the real one at this point.

I guess it is. Damn, sorry bro. Last time I heard high pitched yowling like that, it was when I caught two cats making love to a toaster oven.

I put it through a spectrum analysis. There were clearly no mids, or even lows. Damndest thing I've ever heard. As if people like torture.

This sounds awful!!! No mids. No lows even. Why are you trying to post garbage? Who does that help? Give me another clip.

I would have "liked" or laughed at several of the recent threads everyone has posted, but alas, Line 6 has deemed myself to have emoted too much today. That's how much this crazy thread has got me going. I done spent all of my daily emote privilege!

Honestly up until this point I thought he was well intentioned, but if he's now gonna claim that in a spectrum analyzer, no matter WHAT you do to an EQ, it ends up scooped . . . Most of us have stared at spectrum analysis's of our Helix recordings numerous time and know that's a bogus claim. That's troll level territory.

Well, let's not get this post escalating. If I contributed to that my apologies. For example, I didn't even read the TGP post so I shouldn't have even commented on that. At the end of the day I think we're all well meaning. Everyone wants Niarolf to enjoy the gear they got. We can try to guess at why it hasn't worked out. We can try to give input and feedback as to the reasons to try to help, but if it doesn't work at the end of the day we'll probably never know for sure why. A friend of mine hates Toyota - I love the damn things. WTF. The Stomp is a really cool idea. I adore mine (used it for another 3 hours last night). I'm saddened it isn't that way for everyone. I'm a longtime Star Trek fan who despises Star Trek: Discovery - my hatred of it baffles current fans of the show, and I personally don't know what they're smoking. Life is weird but altogether too short. Good luck finding a suitable alternative!

I've been to awful communities. I don't see how this one could even end up on the scale of an awful community. Do some people just hate friendly ribbing? I think it makes it fun. I thought it was extremely admirable how people kept trying to offer feedback and advice when (IMHO) it looked clear that his opinion on the device was already pretty unshakable. Going to TGP is even more evidence of that. Why is this dead horse being beat so much? I never agonize over any product this much. Trust your feelings - if you hate it you hate it.

Out of sheer morbid curiosity I once linked up five just to see how it handled it and mine was fine. I'm glad you are getting taken care of.
