Problem solved. Used another IR and lowered the gain. Now the IR reduces volume, but there's no distortion at all. I thought the level would increase the volume after processing the signal and without causing overdrive. My fault. Thanks to all.

Thanks again I already tried a clean patch and put only the IR-block in there. Distortion there as well. But I'll definitely try lowering the IR level. It's already set to + 10 because. I'm losing lots of volume with the Studio Tube Pre and a compressor that I put into the beginning of the signal chain in order to lower the input gain for the IR... But I can change that of course ;-)

Still distortion Yes Some of the 3 Sigma Audio IRs are made specially for piezo pickups. I'm gonna try that. I set the level quite high indeed BECAUSE I tried taming the input signal and need some extra power to get a useful output. Next point: I use the Mic Preamp (forget the name, but there's only one) that gives the sharp IR-sound a bit roundness and thickness. But with the gain low (I already have enough distortion ;) ) it swallows lots of volume too.

Hi I made myself a patch on the Helix LT that I'ld like to use with an acoustic (piezo pickups) using an IR. Sounded good first, but as soon a I start playing a bit punchier, I have really ugly distortion. Some facts: Gain is leveled correctly. There's no distortion with the IR bypassed (constant volume) I already tried another guitar - same problem. Batteries are alright. I tried several IRs (including a package from 3 Sigma Audio). Some causing more, some less distortion, but there's distortion with every one! I also tried using a new / blank preset with only the IR-Block inserted. Same problem! I made recordings with the IR bypassed, set to 60% and 100% Does that sound familiar to anyone? I'm running out of ideas! Any tips for adjusting the "Autoswell". For me it works not by far not as good as the GT-100 "Slow Gear" :( . The threshold has a small range to work - wich allows me no dynamic in my playing. And the starting volume can't be set to 0?! Sorry for my english. I'm trying to put this in the right words for about 15 minutes now and can only hope that you guys are understanding me :rolleyes:

Thanks to all of you. As I said: An Octaver is already in use. Compression, EQ ... as well. To my ears the IR brings some nature to the (artificially) deeper sound. Not a Bass guitar, of course, but I really like the result. For creating a "string-kind-of-sound" (don't need the exakt sound, but something that's doing the job in my arrangements) I'm missing the "slow gear" from my GT-100. It automatically produces a swell sound. But there's nothing like that on the Helix :o

Thanks again! Much clearer to me now. Wouldn't it be great to be able to switch between Snapshots (let's say 1 and 2) by pressing on the active preset footswitch again?

Hi again Just in case anyone would ever be reading this an was hoping for an answer: Meanwhile I bought the Helix LT and created a bass-sound for my acoustic. Bass IRs do help a lot. Still using an Octaver as well, but the IR is a great help and improves the final result significantly.

Thanks for your answers. I guess it really depends on how one uses the Helix. For me a supposed knickknack is crucial: After activating a Snapshot, Helix returns into preset mode (if I want to). That's handy for me and my way of using Helix. As far as I get it, that's not really true. Footswitches in stomp mode can control NOT only the bypass-state of boxes but also different settings?!

Sorry, but I just don't get it: As far as I understand the idea behind Screenshots, they are something like different states/charakters/variations of a certain preset. What you do in stomp mode is more like adding/bypassing certain "ingredients" of a preset. But at the end of they day both approaches control a) the on/off-state of one or more boxes b) parameters of one or more boxes? So what's the main difference in practical usage? Thanks!

Hi everyone I'm new to both: Helix and the world of IRs (and even the english language - I hope you guys understand me) :) I've been reading for hours now, and as far as I understand the topic, it should be possible to make my acoustic guitar sound (more or less) like a bass guitar. For now I'm using an octaver and lots of EQing, but I think IRs should be a much better way (if they can make electrics sound like acoustics...) And then a kind of "ambient-orchestra-strings" sound would be great as well. And again I'm hoping to achieve that with IRs (at the moment tons of delay, chorus... is doing the job). So at the bottom line I have 2 questions: a.) Can I do that? b.) Where do I find suitable IRs (Bass & Orchestra/Violins...). Free ones would be nice to try, but basically it's not a problem if they cost a view bugs. What I found for myself is 3 SIGMA. Looks very promising. Thanks a lot!!! chris
