  1. Hi all, thanks for the replies. @codamedia, I don't think I missed the point, but was just saying that if I have to run an external tuner, then I need external boxes, so using my small A/B switch box isn't a huge deal, but I would prefer not to have any external boxes. But I get the point, see below re: using Returns for the 2 acoustics instead of the A/B box. @theElevators, I used to run wireless years ago and the systems have improved and become smaller, but I don't think I'll go that route again (and no, I don't need to run around the stage, at least not anymore, LOL!). I could potentially ditch the A/B box for the 2 acoustic guitar which share a patch currently, and create a patch for each guitar and use Return 2 (for 6 stg acoustic) and Return 3 (for 12 stg acoustic). Then I could potentially use a Send block at the end of each of those patches to go to an external tuner (still not thrilled about an external tuner box when there is a tuner on the Helix!). It won't solve the tuner problem for the hybrid electric as the magnetics (Guitar In) and Piezo (Return 1) run through one patch as I need to send both signals at the same time, however, I could just tune with the magnetics via the Multi option on the tuner, so that's workable. Question on the Send block to external tuner: how do I mute the signal when tuning then (as I don't want my signal output to the PA when tuning)?
  2. Appreciate the replies. In our band, we often transition from one song to the next, and I move from 6 string acoustic to 12 string acoustic to electric throughout the gig, so I don't have time to bend down and make setting adjustments or unplug guitars. I have a hard time believing that I'm in the minority of guitarists who use more than one guitar at a gig and/or who wouldn't like to have the option not to have to switch cables, etc., but that's just my opinion. Bottom line is, those workarounds won't work for me. For how flexible the Helix is, it just doesn't seem like being able to change the tuner settings at the preset level would be rocket science for the designers. I appreciate the Send concept and I do have a Send I could use, but if I have to run an external tuner, then I may as well run in line after my switch box, which it also appears I will need to employ my larger Analog Man custom switch box from years ago in order to handle the routing pre-Helix due to the input limitations. Frustrating and rather surprising this isn't an option of the tuner inputs. Thanks for the replies, all.
  3. Ha I have heard the expression, but how many guitar players play only one guitar? IMO, it's a no brainer that multiple guitar inputs would be available. And I've been able to work around that with Returns, but apparently with some pretty important limitations (like being able to tune!). Unfortunate.
  4. Thx for the reply. I'm not sure what 4cm is, but I think I get what you're saying. It's unfortunate if there isn't a way to make these changes for the tuner input at the patch level, which leads to an even more unfortunate situation where I would need to run an external tuner, as I had to do at my gig yesterday when I discovered the problem, but had hoped that was just a workaround. It seems to me that if there isn't a way to do that, then there is a very big limitation with the Helix for players who use more than one instrument at a gig, as it would require either external tuners or more complex external switchboxes. (sigh)
  5. HI all. I use a variety of inputs for guitars at gigs and am trying to figure out how to assign the tuner as it seems like it's a global setting. I have an electric with magnetics and a piezo bridge that run a TRS from the guitar to 2 1/4" outputs (mag & piezo), the magnetic goes to Guitar In, the piezo goes to Return 1 for input on my patch (both magnetic and piezo are in the same patch). I also run 2 acoustic guitars, which run to an A/B box and then into Return 2 on another patch (that both acoustics share the same patch). The problem is that if I use the Multi input option for the tuner, then the acoustic patch and the piezo don't get picked up by the tuner as Returns are apparently not in the Multi list of inputs. When I assign the tuner to Return 2 on the acoustic patch, then the tuner for the magnetics doesn't work as it appears Tuner input is a global setting that cuts across all patches. I would assume the tuner input setting could be set at the patch level, but that does not seem to be the case, or at least I don't know how to change that. Please help!
  6. @datacommando I just put the patch through it's paces, and it does everything I was looking for! I never answered your question about the Send/Return block; it's for a TC Helicon BodyRez pedal which I feel adds some life to the piezo acoustic sound, so I added that back in at the front of the piezo path. I made a couple small adjustments; I moved my wah pedal to the end of the path (post merge) that way I can use it on the piezo signal as well as the electric signal. Thanks to you both for your help, and especially to @datacommando as you nailed it on what I was looking for! THANK YOU!
  7. @theElevators thanks for sending that video, appreciate you taking the time. I understand how to move blocks, it's more about the separate and merged paths I need. Not sure what I'm doing wrong, but I tried to do what you suggested, and when I change the output of each path to 2A, it ends up sending my piezo path through my amp&cab block, which I definitely don't want. I then tried to free up space on the first path (since I still can't get it to extend or create a parallel path by dragging an existing block down ??) . @datacommando thank you as well for your reply and the edited patch, I will check that out shortly. Based on the description you sent, this is exactly what I'm looking for with the looper and volume pedal in the end of the 2 paths after the merge. I had the piezo input set as Return1 as Line 6 Support told me to use that vs. Aux In due to the volume pad built into the Aux In jack. Will let you know once I upload it and give it a test, thanks!
  8. Hi. Thx for the reply! Glad to hear you think these issues can be resolved. I hear you on looking at it like a wiring diagram, and that's how I think of it, which is why it's confusing to me when Line 6 Support says the looper can't be shared across the 2 signal paths and why I can't figure out how to route it (admittedly, it could very well be user error / lack of understanding). That makes sense about the 2 volume pedal blocks, and I can move my current volume pedal block to the end of the electric chain, but I can't add another block to my piezo path (per #2 in my post). I can't figure out how to make that path chain longer to add more blocks? Were you able to take a look at the patch I attached? The reason I ask is because I believe I do have a 2A, and the Multi is just to route the output for both so that they are summed and can be sent as one signal via XLR (preferred) or 1/4" or whatever, but with one cable to the mixer. Apologies if I'm misunderstanding, but that's how I thought I had it set up. ?
  9. Hi all. Novice Helix user here, but I'm trying to learn quickly! I run an electric guitar with magnetic pickups, but also has a Fishman piezo power bridge. There is one 1/4" TRS output and that cable splits so that the magnetic signal and the piezo signal are distinct and separate. The intention is to be able to use each signal at the same time and therefore, I've created a patch that can do both simultaneously, and while I can get both to work together, and even have footswitches on each channel for Lead and individual effects on each path, however, I've encountered several challenges. The magnetic runs into Guitar In and I've assigned Return 1 for my piezo input, and both are being fed to the Multi output so as to only use one channel on the mixer (I balance them via the volume knobs on my guitar). 1. In speaking with Line 6 support, they said the looper can only be used with one path (currently assigned to the magnetic path), but if I'm summing both the magnetic and piezo signals to the Multi Output, why can't the Looper capture what's coming from both signal paths? 2. In order to create the 2 signal paths, Line 6 support helped me create the base patch, which has a Split Y and a Merge block inserted, however, I have read up on this, but can't figure out how to move this. Ideally, I'd like to add more blocks to the piezo signal path, but I'm unable to figure out how to create more space for additional blocks and I think it might have to do with the placement of the Merge block (?). I also wonder if the location of the merge is part of the challenge with the next issue. 3. My master volume expression and Wah pedals are currently in the electric / magnetic path How can I move these blocks to be effects on the summed output? This is more important for the Volume pedal, as I'd like to be able to use the Volume pedal to adjust the overall output that is being summed to the Multi Out for the patch (in essence, use it to control the overall volume of both paths being sent to the mixer). I've attached my frankenstein test patch to this thread. Thanks in advance for any help! Electric & PiezT.hlx
  10. Hi. I did buy the Apple camera kit adapter but haven’t used it for this purpose. Instead, I went a different rout via an audio interface with a usb to lightning output. So I run all my guitars through my Helix and my vocal mic into a mixer. Mixer output goes to the audio interface (AudioBox iTwo). ITwo usb to lightning output cable runs to a 2 into one lightning adapter: one input is from the iTwo, the other is for iPad output to a large screen TV so I can monitor the Facebook Live feed on a big screen to see comments, song requests, etc. I’ve received a lot of comments that the sound is very good, so, so far, so good! Hope that helps.
  11. Thx for the reply, I'll give that a try. A little more context as the connections will be a little more 'involved' than just the Helix. I will need to have a lightning cable splitter connected to the iPad as I'll plug the Apple camera kit cable to one side (for the Helix audio signal), and then I have another adapter which lets me connect an HDMI cable to it so I can replicate my Facebook Live stream to a large screen TV so I can see the Live feed (to see viewer comments, etc). I'm hoping that will all work together!
  12. Hi all, So I'm doing live streaming gigs on Facebook and Instagram Live. Currently using the built in mics on the iPhone and iPad to pick up the audio in the room from my PA (running my vocal mic and guitars through my Helix floor). Does anyone know of a way to connect the Helix to the iPhone/iPad lightning port and use the Helix as a direct audio interface to Facebook/Instagram Live for the audio during live streaming? Thanks!
  13. Hi. Thx for the reply and tips: 1. Agreed, I only run my Helix to the main board for acoustic and electric. 2. I have read that the LA Studio is key, that helps validate it. 3. Agreed on EQ. I’m good with some EQ adjustments but sometimes it gets a little overwhelming. I’m not a big fan of the ES1’s on my Taylor’s, so will most likely leave the onboard settings flat and adjust via the Helix. 4. Interesting. Will read up on that and experiment a little. 5. Definitely on reverb and maybe some delay in pockets. I’ll have a chorus effect in the patch, but having lived through 80’s hairbands who saturated their acoustic sounds with chorus (which I loved at the time), I typically go for a cleaner sound.
  14. Hi. Thx for the reply and suggestions. After submitting my post, I continued to wade through the endless abyss of posts with words like Taylor, acoustic, etc in them, and down the rabbit hole I went! I did find this very helpful article which I’m hoping to try once I have time to plug my Helix into my laptop and set it up. https://www.google.com/amp/s/jimamsden.wordpress.com/2016/01/01/creating-a-helix-acoustic-guitar-patch/amp/ will take a read through you article suggestions, but from what I’m starting to gather, just finding the right IR could be another rabbit hole. Where do people find the time for all this?!?!
  15. Hi all, Been using my Helix floor solely for electric, but would like to start to use it for acoustic. I’ll primarily be running a Taylor 810ce and a Taylor K65ce (12 string), both have the Taylor Expression system ES1, so wanted to see if anyone had suggestions on patches, settings, blocks, etc etc. Thx!!
  16. Hi all, Helix newbie here. I've created a few custom presets on my Helix floor, but when I touch FS6, it does not bring up Stomp mode. The 8 buttons are blank. Stomp mode works on the factory presets and on presets that I've imported from a friend's board. I have done updates to 2.81 and 2.82 (per recommendations from other threads), but with no improvement. I have read threads on this and tried various things (like changing my global footswitch settings), but again, with no improvement. I have a support ticket in with Line6, but when I had an initial conversation with a Tech yesterday, he was not sure why this was happening. Any thoughts? UPDATE: You can all disregard this post, I just spoke with Tech Support (who were great) and it was newbie user error! I hadn't assigned each block to a switch (I assumed the effect blocks automatically got assigned....duh!).
