.....and then I unplugged the trs cable and plugged it in again and it's been working fine! Not too confident about gigging with it though. ALSO I don't think you should use a ts cable with the ehx pedal - if you read the manual when a ts cable is plugged in it converts to a 5v cv output!

I've just been through the exact same experience. At least I know to stop wasting my time now.
