    Loud Pop

So that is just the way it is changing between presets. Seems like a major bug. Yeah, ill try that. Bummer is I like the Topo 1 for clean and then jump into 4 for leads. But I think I can get close trying that. It is just so hard to clean up 4. Thanks

    Loud Pop

Hi, I am having a heck of a time chasing down a loud pop when I use my foot switch to change from one tone to the next on some tones. I have a hd500X going to the DT25 (line 6) I have tried changing mixer levels to match. Volume levels on amp mods. Even though the volume level are low there is a big pop on my Amp. Any solutions? Very disruptive in a set changing to leads. or other. Tom
  3. Yeah, I know that many love the 69 that is why I was set to get it. Everyone's hands and play style are different, I was planning that I would get a new neck going in, but there was just a connection with the 59 feel. I really wanted tremlo and option of other necks but. When a guitar makes you want to play and create. You can't argue. Main report is that the line6 can give you great tone (my main worry) and they are well made guitars. (69 neck with a little work.) I didn't mention that when I line monkey updated, that it crashed to guitar and failed to update, then the USB hub started blinking red. Tried many times and it would not work. Then did what they say not to do and went through HD500x and LineMinkey saw the Variax and did UPDATE again and it worked. After that all good. So far.
  4. Well I got my guitar. Unexpected Journey. (all good) Drove about an hour and half to PitBull Audio because they had several JTV's in stock. I had my mind made up for the jtv-69. They were waiting on a few other customers and said that they had the 69's in the warehouse. But they would bring one out for me in a minute. I saw that they had a 59 Cherry Burst on the wall, so I grabbed it off the wall and plugged in. Not battery so I just was checking out the feel and mag pickups. Right away this guitar felt like I had played it for years. fret board felt better than my LP standard. seemed to be able to play cleaner, like there was a fraction of an inch more room. It was just great. I couldn't wait to see the -69. In a few minutes they brought out the -69 and opened the box. I picked it up and it felt like a baseball bat sawn in half. fret board was nice, but felt a little rough on the sides (like it needed a little sanding). I sat and played for a while and I just could get that same feel that I had with the -59 a few minutes before. I knew from this forum that I could switch out the Neck and was prepared to do that. But......that 59 feel. I have horses, and I have learned from experience and a few broken bones you get the best horse, not the best looking. So I thought hey I got to check the -59 again. Yep is was a dream. So I said, I really don't want this in Cherry Bust, do you have it in tobacco? They did, brought that out. It felt good like the Cherry but not quite as silky. So I now own my last choice in color, but my new favorite player. My impressions, first day plugged into my hd500X and my DT25, wow this thing sounds like crap. Did a lot of reading about settings, PRE-amp, line inputs and Variax settings, and then on the second day.... WOW....I can't put this thing down. Sound IS AWSOME and MODELING IS FANTASTIC on most of the settings. Even the few like the acoustic and 12 strings that sounded bad on the next few days, once I found the acoustic settings in the playlist HD500x play list, another day of WOW. I can not see how this is not going to be the main guitar that I play. I have a Gibson LP Standard, Fender Start and a Taylor acoustic (and others). And the versatility and options have inspired 3 new songs in styles that I have never really worked on, JAZZBOX and also with DADGAD in 12 string. I am satisfied beyond all expectations. I am a believer. Thanks to the great guys on the support forum for all there info.

  6. That really starts clearing the FOG... Thanks
  7. OK, that is soooo much clearer than the mystery clue they give in the manual with a picture. Of course it all makes sense now. Another question: So are you not able to switch from bridge to neck while in a model mode? Seems like it switches you to another model. I know that you are not using the magnetics at this point, but certainly with any modeled guitar you would want to change from neck to bridge, etc... What is the point of having a Page 58 lester, when you can't switch to bridge for lead or neck for blues? Tom
  8. Hi, I just got a new JTV 59. I see that the manual that came with it is a joke considering the complexity of this guitar. I am sorry but I guess that I am a little slow or should be taking the short bus to school from now on as I am lost. I have a HD500X and a DT25 also, so I have completed my "Dream Rig." Thing is the manual that came with, the manuals online or the 2 tutorial videos that line6 offers explain nothing of how to actually make these things work together. I would love to know if you can set up a preset of modeled guitar in Work Bench and a model Amp in HDedit and actually save this to a Foot Switch on the HD500? I swear that is what they (line6) imply, but nowhere do I see how to do that? Are there links to these instructions of how to videos that anyone might point me to on using this Dream Rig? How to save preset modeled guitar and modeled amp? You know Eddie Van Halen guitar and effects, stomp the switch and bang guitar amp and effects are all set. Then Hendrix Strat w/ 1/2 down, fuzz and whah, stomp and bang. Please tell me that this is what the Dream Rig does? I understand that I need to setup in HD Edit and or Workbench. But how do I combine and then assign to a switch? ALso any other must see links of videos that might save me a couple hundred hours of searching. Like a little more explanation of how to use the cryptic 3 position selector switch to get 5 guitar models. I think the instruction manual has 2 sentences and a picture the shows a button and an = sign. Thanks Tom

Be prepared to take some 0000 steel wool to it every so often if you really want to keep the "raw" feel it's got now. __________________ So what do you have - 59? Or is there a gloss neck option in 69?
  11. Arisiaf, Thanks. That is why I am asking this question. Nice to know these things before I buy.
  12. I got my cash together and have settled on jtv69 I am wondering about the pros and cons of going the HSS pick ups over the SSS pick-ups. I've always thought that the HSS would give me more flexibility with the JTV having the options modeling when I want that. Just wondering what is more popular and if any of you guys have maybe found more or less problems with one over the other and also the tones. Also is there a serial number or updated model that I should be making sure I get. I am getting from Sweetwater and figure they will have the latest inventory. What have you guys gone with. All opinions welcome.
  13. Well with much reservation, I am still getting the Variax because of this support forum. Line6 should take heed to being proactive with problems like the people here on this forum that don't get paid by line6 but actually pay their salaries through their purchases. How Ironic. Line6 needs to be like amazon and make it easy to return and quick to fix these $1,000 +++ purchases at least until they get a good name for their quality. Or they will keep wondering why they don't get the traction with their lines that they deserve. They may be making a profit but they will never make their mark in the upper echelons on Gibson and Fender if they don't get a clue to their real problems. They have a real opportunity to do it with the innovation that they are bringing. Stay tuned.
  14. Urgh. I am sure you are bummed. What the heck is it that they come out with a $1,100 guitar ($2,000 list) that seems to be a beta still all these years later. I just find it hard to roll the dice. Good Build / Bad Build. I guess if I lower my expectations about the build quality and be prepared to just return I might get it worked out. Thanks for the straight dope in this guitar.
  15. Looks cool. Ice Cool. Nice job. I really like when people get personal with their Ax. All the greats seem to have done it. SRV, Eddie, etc.. You're in good company.
  16. So the 69 is the way to go for the neck upgrade if I need it. Thanks
  17. How long is your new varax away when you send it back for repairs. That is something that would not really work for me. Spending that kind of cash and then sending it back and forth several time for an extended time. It seems that all I read is that they are breaking all the time. That is why I am looking to see if one model has less probs than another.
  18. So the sound/sustain/palm mute is basically the same while modeling. As the electronics can adjust those as you desire. I like the swappable neck idea.
  19. Hi, I am about to pull the trigger on a New JTV. My question is this. Is there one model / body style that seems to have better construction / less problems. I am reading so many things here about problems with selector switches, bridges, and necks that I am looking to have see if one style seems to be a little better than another. Also does the body style affect the modeled sounds? Does the Les Paul style body make the Model'd Les Paul sounds better? Strat etc. Or does the bridge and electronics not care? I like the LP body but I hear that the 5 way selector or the Strat is easier to learn for changing mods. But then I read that the 5 way sticks sometimes.. So I think you can see what I am trying to figure. I have real Strats and Les Pauls so I can play either if I need those actual sounds. I totally get the part what I prefer playing and also what pick-ups sound like unplugged. I can figure that part. So in summary: 1) Mods Sound Difference Between Bodies 2) Better Neck (E String slipping off) Between Bodies 3) Less Electronics Problems - Between Bodies
  20. I paid $95 for the tube change and for the guy to completely check the AMP. The main thing is that he was using a Scope to bias and change crossover distortion levels. I used a matched set of EL48s. The $95 is for 1 hour of bench time. I read a several posts of people having improved sound with the JJ's. And others too. But my buddy has a $1800 Dz and they put JJ's in there so that confirmed it for me. Try the TubeStore. They are very helpful. They can give you other options. Tubes do make a difference. There are lots of youtube videos on comparing tubes sounds.
  21. That is what I am finding. These amps can be simple 4 voicing’s that sound very good, or they can be a lab for the mad scientist that wants to explore and learn. Funny how many of our guitar idols just liked to experiment with gear to come up with an original sound. Now we try and copy them. I really like having an entire vintage guitar store at me feet (no pun) and, hey if I really find something that defines my tone, then I may go try the real thing for many $$$. If you don't like the sound and haven't tried upgrading the original tubes, you may be missing out. Just saying. .
  22. Nice to have a chance to say something good. I got a used DT25 that looked like new. Seller disclosed that is had a little humm to it. Before I got it I researched this forum and felt strongly that it was a tube problem, so I took the gamble and got it at a very good discount. I have a HD500X that I was looking to get a close proximity to the tones I was hearing with my headphones and monitor speakers. When I got it home I really was disappointed with the sound even overlooking the hum. The tones were harsh and not really pleasurable to play. But hey, I had purchased replacement JJ's for all 3 tubes. I took it to my amp guy and he frowned when he heard to strong buzz and hum. He said it might be the under sized Caps or something else. Then I frowned. He called today and said he changed to tubes and biased to 0 distortion. (not really sure what that means) and he said that was all it was, and... it sounded great! Whoo Hoo. I ran down to his place and plugged it in at the shop and cranked it. Strings muted, it was as quiet as a church. Sound was clean on clean, crunchy on crunch and sustain was twice as much as before. Got it home and played and played. HD500x sounds clean and correct with just changing presets to Amp PRE's. Is it the JJ's? or maybe it just sounded so bad with the fried Power Tube, I don't know, but I am really impressed with the sounds this thing can produce at live levels. All good for today! Rock On.
  23. I just thought that the Line 6 Link was more plug and play than it is. Seems like you have to tweak just as much as you would to any other amp. Maybe less with other amps concidering the sync problems and auto adjutments the Link seems to make. I really want to love this amp with the HD500x. Stand alone it is great. But not really why I bought it. I passed over getting a Fender Deluxe so that I would have less tweaking and closer tones to what the HD500 delivers. I will be getting the DT back on Wed with the New JJ tubes all around and also I now have a Digital XLR EAS/... so I have my fingers crossed that it will be improved sound if nothing else. I am not one to give up easily so I will use this forum to explore all options that I can get out of it. Has anyone started a thread for patches with HD500X and DT25 together? If there is so much tweaking to get the sounds specific to the two might be good for others to divide and conquer.
