I’ve been thinking about this recently and what I am going to say is constructive. I’ve always enjoyed gear, used to use a POD XT Pro years ago for a function band, but since then I’ve been pretty much a nice pedalboard into a Landau Deville. I bought a Helix just before lockdown as I wanted to video myself with a band playing live in a friend’s studio and my amp would be too loud, and I hadn’t even really heard of Capture X etc. So, here I am now in 2023 looking at playing with a couple of bands and rehearsing. I’ve been putting some effort into the Helix. I have a studio and am very able to engineer, produce and mix my own music (I tend to use Scuffam S-Gear, and I’ve also started using my amps with a Capture x) so I understand how to try and get the Helix sounding good. High / low pass etc. BUT, in a live / rehearsal experience I am starting to lose faith with the Helix. Yep it’s a great unit, but I’m not feeling the same ‘something’ that my amp gives me. It’s almost like the Helix is in the ‘mix’ but it’s not ‘in the room’. I almost feel like there just ‘something’ between the sound and my ears. Plus, I read a comment in this post where some guy said he’s getting great sounds and loving the Helix (and good on him for that, anyone who’s happy is a great thing) and he said “I’m only 1/64th into discovering what it can do…” Playing the guitar shouldn’t be about spending months learning how to use your gear, it’s about playing and being creative. Like most modern things now, seems people, myself included, get caught up spending 90% of your time fiddling with gear / settings / online b*lllollipop, and 10% actually playing. Surely it should be 90% playing and 10% tweaking of our sound. I’m probably sounding a bit miserable here as gigs are disappearing, venues are shutting, no one pays for music anymore, music has almost become just a hobby for many now, but I’m just starting to feel like I am not prepared to spend ANY more time fannying around getting sounds sorted, when the feel I am getting from the device is not inspiring me to really want to play. I am talking about in a room / stage with others, not in my house at lower volume. Maybe I need to sell the Helix.

Hi all, I have borrowed a PowerCab plus 112, and yes, even after a short period messing with it I can see the potential. Can I ask, anyone who uses a PC, do you take a line out of the PC into your PA to avoid having to set up AMP Sims and low pass EQ etc to stop fizziness, or do you send a separate feed to your PA...?

Hi there all, I have been into technology for years, and used to regularly use my POD XT pro with a full range cab in a band 30 years ago, more recently I have used a Landau Deville and the usual pedalboard, but I did get a Helix about 18 months ago to help record some live video in a friend's studio. Covid hit, and I ground to a halt like many. BUT, turns out I have a band gig again soon and intend to use the Helix as I can't be arsed to carry the amp and heavy pedlaboard. I am getting lazy at 54. :-) I've been playing around with the Helix in my living room, into a Yamaha full range monitor cab I have which sounds fine, but I am liking the idea of the PowerCab. My question is.... I am not that fussed about stereo, but the 1x12 only has mono outs so that's that anyway, but if I have several patches where I have EQ'd to low pass appropriately so it sounds not bad straight out of the back of the Helix into a desk. I would obviously have to create new patches with NO Cabs loaded in the Helix as I would use the PowerCab. So, I guess I would have to create a) a set of patched for when I can't use the PowerCab, straight into a desk etc and in ears b) the same patches but without low pass EQ and cabs for when I use the PowerCab and Midi cable to change the speaker in the PC for my patches if required... Obviously not the end of the world, unless there is a function that globally turns off ALL cabs / specific plugins (Certain EQ etc) on the Helix...? But I am thinking a different set of patches for whatever scenario I need...? I really get the impression the PowerCab is a must purchase...

OK.... Major embarrassment here guys... LOL. I have just noticed I had the Helix Native plugin on an insert on the track I was recording a DRY signal to. I guess I did this when I was playing around at trying to re amp. Well, that's that sorted. I was doing it right all along... :-) Thanks for taking the time to reply. Carl.

Hi brue58ski XLR just going to full range monitor to hear whilst recording so don't have to worry about PC 's latency. The 1/4 output is going into my RME soundcard and then I am recording to a track. Not using USB as I am NOT using the helix as my soundcard, I am using my RME. codamedia I have inserted a 'send' block, and as you can see am sending to send 1. BUT, it's still sending the effected signal sound out of SEND 1. Seems a bit odd... LOL Thanks for your replies... :-)

Hi there, Any help most appreciated in advance. :-) I have seen a few videos talking about exporting a DI signal with no effects but I am still missing something. I am just wondering if there are any global settings I need to change. Currently I am trying to record a dry signal in Cubase (PC) and have an 1) XLR going out to a monitor speaker in my room using XLR output to hear a full sound to record with, and 2) I have set up a parallel chain with a volume pedal and the output is the 1/4 inch jack output. In theory this should send a clean signal. When I play and monitor in cubase I hear clean guitar, but after I have recorded a test, when I listen back to what was recorded it's the full effected sound. Seems like the effected full amp sound etc is coming out of all the outs, send 1&2. 1/4 inch etc not just the XLR Thanks in advance. Carl.

I am very interested i the Helix VST. I am a Cubase user and my main guitar sound for recording has been Scuffham which I love. I own a POD XT pro, ut generally stopped using L6 plugins for the tone generation when I started using Scuffham, Guitar Rig and even Waves GTR. But, I love using the POD Farm 2 effects for my guitar, and I am very keen to use Helix VST as I imagine i will find it very useful. $399 isn't going to happen for me, if they do the upgrade from POD Farm 2 for close to the $99 ($150 etc) then I'll get it, but I'll live without it at $399 as I think that's excessive. But I agree with another users, I loved using L6 stuff from the early days, then went away for a bit, but this Helix is bringing me back. Good work. :-)
