I don't know if this helps, but I had this happening to me yesterday and I came across your post here.
After loading a bunch of IRs (over 100), it started behaving like this... I would turn the unit on, all the footswitches would be off and without anything written on them...
I tried deleting some of the IRs and restarting the unit and it didn't work.
I went into maintenance mode, formatted the SD Card (not sure it was necessary) and resetted everything back to factory default settings.
When I turned the unit back on again, everything was working as intended... definetely some software bug in this case.
