  1. I'm finding the H&K Grandmeister 36 to be a nice in-between option with my POD HD 500x, instead of a DT series amp. This was a great solution for me personally, given the DT25 didn't have the headroom I was looking for to drive my clean sound, and the DT50 was just way too much amp for my purposes. Also that I generally like the H&K tones for most of what I'm doing. Using the 4 cable method AND the POD HD500x as a midi controller for the Grandmeister, I have the ability to choose on a patch-by-patch basis whether to use the Grandmeister pre-amp or a POD pre-amp model which bypasses the H&K pre-amp stage, but still can take advantage of different channel voicings in the power amp stage. The key is the effects loop and selecting on the POD what goes into the Grandmeister instrument input vs. into the effects return. The different channels on the Grandmeister also impact the power stage voicings, so I have similar analog tone shaping capabilities to what I get with a DT amp. The only mental overhead is that when I am using the H&K pre-amp, I just have to adjust the EQ & channel options on the amp to suit my patch and remember to also save those settings to the Grandmeister preset (which by default goes to the last selected channel, so it's easy, just hit "STORE" on the amp for a few seconds - the amp will be on the correct preset already if I selected it through the POD). I.e. the patches on the POD are matched 1:1 (Bank/Patch) with my presets on the Grandmeister, and so changing the patch on the POD also selects the matched preset on the Grandmeister then. They work quite well together!! The Grandmeister has more clean headroom than a DT25 , and is MUCH easier to carry around than a DT50.
  2. The Traynor is a new cab. I actually didn't have it with me when I had possession of the DT25 which was the 1x12 combo model. I guess I can refine my question to be: what would adding a second speaker to the DT25 do for the sound?
  3. Sorry, that's a good point... too many variables. I was using a POD HD 500x on a Blackface PRE amp model, with a Fender Strat. I'd just have to buy it to try it, the store doesn't rent them. Unless I take my rig into the store to try it.
  4. Basically, it was "loud enough" but my feeling was that the sound wasn't as "full" at stage volume as it was at lower volumes. My first impression was there wasn't enough headroom to drive the clean tone I was looking for. My question is basically what would a second speaker do for a clean tone?
  5. Hi, I've been dipping my toes into the DT range over the past couple of weeks. I started out with a DT25 112 which I thought was a lovely little amp. Tried it out at a gig and while the volume was more than adequate, it felt to me that at stage volume the clean tones (Topo 1) lacked just a little, uh... for lack of a better word: "substance". My first thought was that maybe the DT25 didn't have enough head room, but I'm wondering if maybe the 1x12 was a factor (eg: not pushing enough air). I tried out a series of DT50 212 combo's, both were defective (one blew smoke, the other had no volume at all in Topo 1). Rather than risk picking up a third specimen from the same production batch, I'm wondering if should try my hand with a DT head. Given my experience with the 1x12 combo, do you think a DT25 head into a 2x12 cab would be any better than the DT25 112 in terms of Topo 1 clean tone? Or should I order the DT50? These aren't in stock, so I can't try them myself. I have a 50w/8ohm Traynor cab with greenbacks. Thx
  6. Did you guys get your amps checked out? Just curious if there was an identified cause for it? I'm observing the same issue with my DT50 212. Compared to a DT25, my DT50 is *nowhere* near as loud in as it should be in Topology 1. I noticed it seemed roughly 40% louder when I pulled out the master knob for LVM. When I cited the LVM being louder as a symptom, Line 6 tech support assured me that was normal. What the tech didn't think was normal was that I could have the master & channel cranked 100% and all tone settings at 12 o'clock and play the guitar at full volume comfortably with my face in front of the grill. He said it should melt my face off ☺ Since I just got the amp today, he suggested I request an exchange.
