  1. I do it much like Burg11941 above, bringing the band mix in on the FX return, where I also drop an LA Studio Comp and a Simple EQ into that path to tweek the sound and level of the band mix - but from there I rout the band mix to a dead end (Digital Output) so that it does not appear on the 1/4" or XLR outs but will still be present on the Headphone out (Multi), where it goes to my ears. This way I can get either mono or stereo band mix (using 1 or 2 Returns), and FOH can receive either 1/4" or XLR in mono or stereo with me being able to adjust the overall level of the FOH send (Volume knob) and my IEM level (Headphone knob). The bottom-row split is where I bring in the band mix (sent to Digital while my guitar path is sent to Multi). This is a rearrangement of the ISS Flyby patch to bring in the band mix.
  2. The Mac driver beta seems fine in LPX on Mavericks (10.9.5). Re-amping works as advertised with all 8 ins/outs available, iTunes & other audio play-through works, etc etc and I can record at 24/96k. Which means I would need to bring the iPad audio and VG-99 audio in through the Helix or my MOTU 896 if I want a 24/96 project. Cool!
  3. I have a 2011 MacBook Pro on Mavericks 10.9.5 running Logic Pro X (10.2.2) - all 8 ins/outs appear and work fine with my Helix as a USB audio interface (latest firmware update 2.11). But as the manual says, the sample rate is locked at 48k which I know will cause all sorts of issues if I try to use my iPad's digital out (44.1k) or my VG-99 (also 44.1k) into LPX at the same time (which I like to do). I'm going to try the beta Mac driver and see how I make out.
  4. Might buy a Helix, but I'm curious - can you place two gates on a single path? I know I could do it with 2 paths, but just wondering. One noise gate would be early in the chain to cut high-gain noise, one would be further down the chain to give me a hard staccato during palm muting. Not a make-or-break thing, just curious if you can put more than one instance of an effect on a single path.
  5. @TheRealZap - Great to find this old thread, as I have a quite specific question along these lines. I've acquired a Variax 700 Acoustic and I'm now looking to acquire a POD floor unit so that I can use it to change alternate tunings on the fly via Midi Program Change (messages coming from a sequencer). On the XTL, will I still have access to the U and F options on a per-patch basis and have the associated tunings applied to the guitar? Is this dependent on the firmware version? Just trying to figure out if the XTL/X3L will do the job or if I need the HD500(x). thanks!
