  1. zaphodboy's post in How do I save one of the Variax guitar types or a tuning with a HD Pro preset? was marked as the answer
    Hi Kevin

First of all you must be hooked up the Variax to the Pod via a VDI cable so the JTV can transmit the digital signal to the POD. Assuming you have done that
open up HD Edit on your desktop and click the mixer tab. you will see the Variax section on this screen. Select your Variax model from the 'VDI input' drop down and your preference for the functions of the knobs on the guitar using the 'Variax control' drop down. you should see options for the various Variax models appear and, underneath, the tuning options. Just choose which you want, hit 'send' as you would with any other patch and you're good to go.
    Hope this helps

Definitely leave the amp out of the signal chain, then the rest is up to you. I find adding a little tube compression and reverb gives the most natural sound.

    Hope that helps.

Make sure your output mode is set to combo front and not studio direct. This is changed by holding down the 'view' button then scrolling through the various screens until you get to the relevant one. Also make sure the physical switch is set to amp, not line.

I am using an FRFR system (basically a PA) now, using Stagesource speakers but to be honest I got some pretty decent tones with the above settings using full amp and cab emulations going into the front of my old tube amp. I often got positive feedback from musos in the crowd with this set up anyway! I just made sure my basic amp sound was as clean as I could achieve and worked from there. Don't get me wrong if you compared, say, my Fender Twin tone with a real Fender Twin they wouldn't sound all that similar, but it was still a great tone.

Once you've got used to the HD500 you'll love it but I think you'll end up tweaking more than you would want....somehow you just get drawn into it!!
  4. zaphodboy's post in Is the L3 loud enough for an FRFR rig? was marked as the answer
I got the L3m in the end, used it for the first time on Sunday at an outside gig and WOW....it sounded awesome! More headroom than you can shake a stick at. When we make it really big and play the 02 arena I might get the volume past half way!! I have been umming and erring about FRFR since the Stagesource speakers came out, now I'm kicking myself for not doing it earlier.
