  1. Thanks Edstar1960, so it sounds like I'm doing it backwards? I was flipping the pickup switch where I wanted it, dialing up the right guitar and then hitting "Upload to Variax". Is that not the right way?
  2. yeah, somehow I missed the pickup selector switch portion of the software. I have to basically, pick one of those, save it, go to the next switch position, pick the guitar, save it, same with the last position. Duh. Sorry about that! EDIT- However, I'm noticing the same deal here... 1) If I set it up for a Casino with my pickup switch on my guitar in the up position 2) I hit "Upload to Variax". 3) When I move the pickup switch, it doesn't go to that which I just saved. It goes to other models in the Semi group of guitars. Anybody have an idea of where I'm missing the boat?
  3. Hi, I've got the JTV59 model. I'm wanting to dial in a Casino. I'm using the Semi 2 patch in WorkBench HD. Seems to sound pretty good. However, I'd like to make it so that when I use the pickup selector switch, I get a Neck or Bridge pickup sound. So top postion neck, middle is both, down is bridge. However, when i flip the switch, it changes models of guitar on me. Is there a way to keep it from changing the model of guitar but let me dial it in so I can make the pickup switches?
  4. I was thinking "is there a common starting point?" but yeah, I know what you mean. If you think of it in the terms of an amplifier, you turn on your amp and it sounds like XX when it's clean. Then you add effects, distortion, etc. But you've got that clean, punchy amp as a starting point. With the HD500, it seems like you're always starting at ground zero. I need to find the "clean, punchy amp" and build from there and I guess that's what I'm finding hard to do. I realize it's an odd and somewhat basic question,
  5. Hi- I've had a JTV59 for about a year now. I LOVE it. I used to have to carry a ton of acoustics along with my electrics and the JTV/HD500 Combination has made my life so much simpler, thanks Line 6. My issue is this- I use it through a Bose system. I'm a multi-instrumentalist and so my keyboard and mandolin go through it too, along with the HD500/Variax. The rig has made my life much simpler. For the Acoustic sounds, this combination works pretty well. For the electrics, not so much. My QUESTION is this: When you guys set up your sounds in your HD500 for your Variax's- do you pretty much leave the EQ flat or does each patch get EQ'd differently? If I take the sounds straight from the Workbench into the HD500, that's obviously pretty simple, but while these sounds are great through headphones, sometimes in the live situation it's not that great. It's almost like there needs to be a basic amp setup in the HD500 that is just killer, then all the sounds from the workbench go there to take advantage of those great amp settings. I'm probably looking for an overly simplistic answer here, I just tend to get wrapped around the axle trying to dial in perfect tones.
  6. Hey, thanks for the replies. I've not had locking tuners before- I think I'll try the Sperzels. I'll let you know if I don't like them. Looks like people really like them and they're priced right. Thanks again for the help!
  7. I'm not really worried about spending the dough (though my post reads like that). I guess I'm wondering if there are alternatives, but might as well go for them. Thanks.
  8. Hi, I've been having some pretty annoying tuning issues with my JTV59. I'm looking to swap out the tuning machines. After looking at the forums, looks like someone liked these: TK-0976-010 Schaller 3X3 Chrome Locking Tuners, however they're 85.00, which seems pretty pricey. Have any of you had any luck with any other drop-in solutions? I REALLY do not want to drill new holes or anything. I'm looking for a straight replacement. Thanks!
  9. yeah, tried it in a rehearsal. Just too funky without a click. A solo artist, it'll work. But a band... eh, I don't think so
  10. Hi, I use the JTV59 with a PODHD500 in my live shows. I've got my electric sounds going to my amp and the acoustics going to the PA.What I'm wondering is, if you just use the Variax as a normal guitar, the pickup selector switch works like it should on a Les Paul. If you're using it as a Variax, if you flip it while playing, all the sudden, you're on something else. What I'd like to do is set it up for my Variax patches so that when it flips, it's not such a drastic change of instrument. On some of them, I'll be on something like a Ric 12 string sound, but if I ht the selector switch, all the sudden a sitar, or acoustic guitar or something else is coming out. What I'd like to know, is there any way that I can make it so the selector switch picks a "like" guitar? For example, if I'm using "Chime 2" in the center position, can I actually program the up and down positions of the selector switch to say Chine 1 and Chime 3? Just an example. I'm not sure where to do this. In my HD500, I've got all my alternate tunings and variax models stored, so at the tap of a foot switch, I'm playing, say, a 12 string acoustic with Drop D tuning. Tap another switch and I'm playing a 6 string electric in G tuning. SO I'd think I'd be able to set it up in the HD500, but I'm not finding that. That makes me think it's in the Variax workbench where I'd do it. Is there a way to do this? Thanks
  11. Hi I really dig the HD500. However, I'm having a helluva time dialing in my patches for consistent volume. I THINK I have it all together, then hit the gig and my patch volumes are all over the place, this after spending hours tweaking. Would using a DAW's meters be a better way than trusting my ears to do this? Ears get tired after a while and it seems that something visual would REALLY help with this.
  12. Do you mean an A/B switch? You can do that? Man, there are so many things buried in the HD500 that I've not even discovered. I will see what I can do with that. Wouldn't that mean another switch I'd have to hit while playing?
  13. I will give this a try this evening. After messing with the HD500 for looping, I'm getting pretty used to it at this point, but I still think it may not be ideal. For someone that uses, say, drum tracks, that'd be the way to go. I'm just wanting to play solos over the top of a loop that I record while playing the song.
  14. Yeah, having the HD500 do it is great. The setting has to be pre-stored, but once you've done it, it's there.
  15. I'm trying to figure out how to hook up an external looper to the PODHD500. Everything I see says "Oh yeah, it's just Guitar>looper>HD500." Unfortunately, that approach won't work with a Variax cable. there's no such input on the Jamman Looper. Is there a way to hook up an external looper to the HD500 while it's using it's Variax cable? The issue I'm having is that I use the Variax/HD500 for everything. I split the signal so my electric settings go to my amp and the acoustic sounds go to the PA. This has worked great for me. I'd like to incorporate a looper and the problem with HD500's looper is that it's mono and so I cannot split the signal like I'm doing for all my sounds. So during a song, if I want to play a solo over a loop, the loop will come out of my amp and out of the PA acoustic guitar channel. That won't work and will probably entice my soundman to kill me after the gig. Is there a way around this with an external loop pedal/JTV59/HD500? I've also got a support ticket in, but figured someone here might've encountered this along the way. thanks
  16. I THINK this post answers my question, sort of: http://line6.com/support/message/401352#401352 Wish I had a photo of that setup. Not sure what connections are being made there...
  17. Yeah Silverhead, I'm finding out that it's definitely not that easy to use in a live setting. I haven't done it yet, but was going to try it this weekend. I can get it to record and stop so I can record the verse chords that're used in a later solo, then fire off the loop when I need it in the song so I can solo over it. But it is really not "hassle free" and it's not as intuitive as I'd prefer. It also makes it difficult to change patches live. So if the acoustic is looping and I want a distorted electric solo, it's not that easy. I have a JamMan Looper in my closet. Is anyone using these with the HD500 in a live setting? Maybe that's a better way for me to go? It certainly uses longer loops, which is reassuring. Any idea if that would eliminate the whole "split audio" issue I'm having?
  18. Holy Crap... the amount of thought in the setups is mind boggling. I'm doing the different tunings with the Variax as well. It's WAY cool and gets me out of the capo thing. My biggest fear is if my HD or JTV goes down in a gig. All my tunings and sounds would be gone in one fell swoop. I have nightmares about such things. ;) Regarding Virtual Capo, I've just gone in and manually changed the tunings on the Variax settings on the HD500, one string at a time. Sounds like there might be an easier way with the virtual capo approach.
  19. Actually Phil, both situations apply. There are times when there's an acoustic looping track and I'm playing electric too. Maybe I just can't do what I'm trying to do. Definitely complicated. Maybe putting the looper PRE is something to try. Might be simpler to get another guitarist. :)
  20. Right now, I'm splitting the signal using 1/4 inch jacks. I'm not following what you're saying above unfortunately. If I loop, say, an acoustic guitar part, then play a solo over it, also with acoustic guitar, won't that go to the same side? Sorry, this is pretty new to me.
  21. With my HD500, I'm JUST getting into using the looper. It seems it will almost do the job for me. I'm also using a JTV59 as well. I split the signal of my patches so that the electric guitar signals come out of my amp, then when I use the acoustic guitar sounds, they're sent directly to the PA and not through the amp. This has worked great so far. However, I want to use the looper to fill up the solo areas with chords (It's a 3 piece band). I notice that even though I've got my electric and acoustic signals split, the looper comes out BOTH outputs. This makes it really difficult for our sound guy. Is there a way to make it so all the electric loops come out of one side and the acoustic loops come out the other like when playing live?
  22. Aha! Found it in another post (finally). Use the UNDO button to record, and stop. Then push play when you need the sample.
  23. Yeah see, that's the issue. It stops then immediately starts the playback. What I want it to do is stop the recording and WAIT for me to hit play, not just start up right away. Is there no way to do this? There doesn't seem to be. To play a passage and then have to hit two switches is pretty difficult to do and stay in time with your band. I must be missing something.
  24. But won't that immediately start the playback as if I was recording another layer on top?
  25. Hi, I want to use the looper live in a three piece. I can see where this'd be great for having a rhythm guitar part under a solo. Record the rhythm part, loop it, play the solo. Great! My issue is, when I engage the looper and hit "record", it records what I'm doing, but then I can't stop what I'm recording without triggering the recorded loop. If I hit the record button again, it starts playing the loop I just recorded. If I hit the play button, it does the same thing. Seems that while recording, there should also be a stop button so that I can record a section and use it later in the song. Is there a way to hit record, record the part and STOP recording so that I can then trigger the recorded loop at another time in the song? Basically, I'm trying to record verse chords so that I can use them later under the guitar solo.
