Pod 2.0. 17-32 amp models??

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I just got my first Line 6 pod 2.0. Here is my newb question. I'm trying to access amp models 17-32. I've read the manual. I'm holding the tap when changing the knob. It changes nothing. Also how do you know when you are using the 17-32 amps? Is there an indicator light?

Thanks

Hey There and welcom to the L6 forums!

Yeah you should hear a change  - some may be more subtle than others. Is the tap button working? Can you tap tempo a delay to check it out?

It has been a while so I can't remember if there is a led that pops when in alt mode (I want to say no).

You could fire up the Line 6 Edit program too as a check. Then you will know for sure.

But if everything else is working fine it may just be a sticky tap tempo button.

Tap tempo button is working. I hold the button, turn the knob. No noticeable difference. Same with the cab knob.

Also when I switch the pod off it makes a whistle noise through my amp.

One other thing. While I'm playing, occasionally the word "clip" will appear, very vague.

I'm kind of dissatisfied with this.

Thanks

Hmmmm you should hear a difference even if subtle - even cranking the gain? Still try it with L6 Edit and you will "know" the model is loaded and what settings are there.

Yep when you shut the Pod off with the amp on you will hear a noise, happens with my D-Tech Stuff, Zoom, R-Tron..... I turn the amp off first.

Clip -> indicates your input is hitting the ceiling. Hitting a chord hard or using hot/active PUs will do this. But if its once in a while no biggie.

I've had a Pod Bean since V1 and still love them in the various editions. It can be under whelming at first but as you get into it the tones will come. Which is another reason to get it connected to the 'puter -> you can download tones into it. That is a good way to find a base tone and tweak it to your ear and gear.

I've had my POD 2.0 for 12 - 15 years - and it still works perfectly.  I assume you did the factory reset upon receiving your pod?  If not, do so!

If you have the POD AIR mode set to amp - you will hear no change going through cab models, as the cabinet models are disabled in this mode.  Set your gain and output to about 10 o clock, channel vol to max.  Set to direct to activate cab modeling - and now try turning the effects knob while holding the tap button.

Holding the tap button while turning the amp models dial should produce a quite noticeable sound change either way you have AIR mode set.

Your POD may be broken if still does not work after following the above.  As another reader commented, you may be able to still manually edit your pod.  The original presets include at least one version of all 32 amp models.  So you can still consult the manual to see which preset uses the amp model you desire from 17-32, and then save that amp to one of the 1-16 models you do have access too.

I am guessing you picked your POD up on the cheap.  They are still a fantastic practice tool - and have modeled tones that are still better than many offer today.  I often use mine (though I just ordred an FX100 to replace it) to kick back and jam to commercials and background music.  I run it into the return on a hot rod deluxe, and have all the controls, including amp volume, at my fingertips...  The pod is on a stand at the end of the couch - right at arm level - to maintain my couch potato status.

I just got my first Line 6 ever, the POD 2.0 it was used and came with no software. I have downloaded the manuals but not read them all yet. I found that the Monkey software does not work for the 'flash' upgrade, and apparently you have to buy some eprom chip or something to update it. So I won't be able to do that. But how do you do a factory reset?

Hey Zovs,

I wouldn't reflash the Pod unless you really have too.

The FAQs here have lots on stuff boiled down: http://line6.com/support/page/kb/_/pod/pod-20-podxt-family-pocket-pod-floorpods/original-pod-pod-20-faqs-r497

A reset on the 2.0s goes like this:

http://line6.com/support/page/kb/_/general-faq/line-6-device-factory-reset-procedures-r435

POD/POD 2.0/Bass POD/POD Pro: press and hold the up and down arrow buttons as you power the unit on for ~ 5-7 seconds or until it goes to the preset 1-A

The eprom thing was a legacy from the original V1 where we could swap out chips for the upgrade (btw my old V1 Pod is still running so they are pretty tough). If you have a 2.0 eprom in it be gratefull because L6 has been out of them for a long, long time.

Thank you so much Bill!

Appreciate the tips and the links.

So on my POD 2.0, how would I know what the eprom is? I know when I power it up it flashes P 0 d 2 . 0 and the goes to whatever channel I was last on.

I am still learning this thing, so far I do like all the sounds I can get for direct amp or directly into my PC (through my Focusrite).

The newer (IIRC) non-eprom ones have "FBV" above the pedal port.

Though if your Pod is showing its a 2.0 I would not worry about it - except for floorboard choices.

Q: What is the difference between the original POD/POD 2.0 and the newer POD 2.0?
A:
The most obvious differrences are the display now have a different 3-digit LCD display and the POD is now labeled 'FBV' above the RJ45 connection to show compatibility with the FBV series foot controllers. These newer POD 2.0's are not compatible with the older FB4 or Line 6 Floor Board controllers. The newer POD 2.0 also has a different processor from the original and is not upgradeable via EPROM chip. Also, because of this new processor, the modeling of this POD 2.0 may sound slightly different that an original POD 2.0.

This is where you can get the flash memory for the newer 2.0s:

http://line6.com/software/index.html

Though I would not do it unless you have to and that is only after you get the midi/usb connection working well. I don't want you to make a paperweight. :)

I still use the orginal pods (or floor pods) they just sound good.

Hi. Joinin' the party late, but I have a related question regarding amps 17 - 32.

When you hold the Tap button down and turn the Amp Models dial to, say, Black Panel, what are you (supposed to be) getting? Are you getting a Blackface Twin or a Blackface Deluxe? My understanding is that it should be a 1965 Blackface Twin.

However, in the manual, in the Amp Models chart (on the left-hand side of the POD diagram in the upper half of the chart) it lists the Black Panel amp as being a 1964 Deluxe. In the lower half of the same chart, it lists (Black Panel) Black Panel #2 as being the 1965 Twin.

So, which Black Panel is it when you're in amps 17-32 mode?

Actually which one is it, in the Presets chart, when you're in Bank 1C? Just to confuse the issue further, if you're in Bank 3C, it says that the Black Panel there is modeled after a 1965 Deluxe. Is that a typo?

The next mention of a Black Panel in the Presets chart is Bank 7C, but it lists the 1965 Blackface Twin. In fact, nowhere in the Presets chart is there any mention of the 1964 Blackface Deluxe.

I'm confused. Any answers for this?

Thanks in advance.
