rsp2rsp2rsp2rsp2
greetings. for convenience & travel reasons, i recently sold off all my rack & pedal stuff and replaced with an hd500x. however, unlike a lot of other owners, i am only playing an acoustic through this floorboard. my pickup is a dual source (mic+piezo combo) but, i am still processing my tone (electric-style, with comp, modulations delays and rotaries (u2-edge, jeff buckley, acoustic jimmy page/david gilmour/lindsey buckingham style but on an acoustic). other players on forums have suggested to totally bypass the amp-modeling section and just use boosts, EQ and my chosen effects. on this forum, i wish to hear from other owners/players and receive their advice and comment for my purpose (processed acoustic-electric with effects). fed ex has not delivered my unit yet, so i am reaching out to get feedback before hand. BlueViolince
I like the Hiwatt model, full head/cab mode. Full E.R., full sag. For reference, I've been using mine with electric violin for a clean tone for the past four years or so.
pfsmith0
For my acoustic instruments I don't use the amp sims at all. Just a few FX blocks. I use the XLR or 1/4' outputs directly into a PA.
bjnette
Congrats! You will be more than happy with your purchase. There are some great FX well suited to acoustics.and well worth diving in. Of course if you want clean as in dry, get a dedicated acoustic guitar preamp DI. Though you won't be saving any money. I'd recommend using an EQ first slot or so on your 500x to smooth any lumpy notes for each of your guitars, perhaps a compressor just tickling the notes. Also the vintage pre has some basic EQ and will smooth and boost. Spend plenty of time perfecting your dry tone and save as a preset to build other patches on trying some very nice modeled FX. Don't forget to reinvent the wheel from time to time and start from scratch as you'l know the unit much better then.
BlueViolince
I would add that you should work with the adjustable input impedance, and see what sounds best with your instrument. There's also a great resource on the various EQ fx blocks in the HD forum. I second the base patch method, as bjnette already mentioned. Charlie_Watt
What you play it into is a big deal for good acoustic sounds. I use a powered PA speaker and it sounds great - no amp sims just effects and some eq.
