Working On Panama Preset

Hi,
 
I'm currently trying to find the tone for Panama of Van Halen. I think that I'm in the good way but I need a more "in your face" sound. So, if you have some advice to achieve a better sound, I will try my best.
I think that the tone sounds too much "suffocated".

I'm no professional, but I do my best, so I have compared it with the original sound at the same time:

Try to give some more mid and lower mid sound, you are not strong enough. Maybe use an extra EQ if the amp EQ won't do.

I don't know your preset setup, but you should try to get the sound a little bit closer to the Center. I mean if you use a chorus or another spreading effecting parameter, then reduce the depth, and if you are using two amps, then mix them a litte bit more mono, just a little - you are pretty close to it already (it has something to do with phase shifting).

You can also check the predelay parameter of your reverb.

Check your cab settings. On amp page 4/5 try to reduce ER parameter and on page 5/5 you can reduce Res LVL parameter to get a more direct sound.

If you decrease Decay parameter a little, you get a tighter feel which also will give a more direct sound, especially in contrast with reverb effects.

 

You must be very sensitive, don't turn to fast and feel how the sound changes with each single step of value. You do not have to change everything, but now it is time to test some details.

Some don't believe me, but I hear a difference if I change some values just +1 / -1. I also hear a difference in tone wether I'm in Edit Mode or in Play Mode (saved), or if I'm connected over USB or not.

Thanks for your advices mazuwa. I'm giving a try to some settings that you mentionned. I will give you a return in a few days as soon as I achieve a better result... I hope :)
